I read through some docs on the tech support page from Dish...but still cant make head or tail out of it. :)

I live in Phoenix, AZ and want to get the following.

HD channels(will subscribe to the HD package).
Local HD channels(dont think this matters).
International programming(probably makes a difference).

I currently have a dish 500.

I understand that I will need another one for the HD programming.
I will be getting the 622 and plan to hook it up to 1 HDTV and 1 SDTV.

Will getting one of the 1000(out of the 3) buy me anything?
Is there a difference between them?
Should I request one over the other if I planning to "future proof" my setup for more TV's or shorter lengths for wires?

See the Dish Types (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/dishes.htm) comparison chart on the EKB.

Which satellite carries the international programming you want?

HD programming requires 110° along with either 129° or 61.5°.
Phoenix HD locals (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/hdlocal.htm) are on 110°.
AFAIK, no HD RSN for you. Other parts of the country will need either 129° or 61.5°.

You probably need a Dish 1000.2 with the triple LNB head. It supports up to 3 receivers and has an input for a 4th satellite.

A regular (original) Dish 1000 would require adding the expensive DPP44 switch. The 1000+ has a special dual-band LNB to pick up 118.75° which probably don't need, unless you're looking for Korean, Chinese, Filipino or South Asia channels.

That link didnt work.
The international programming comes on 148 I think.

Thanks for the reply though.

Try the link again. If 148 is correct, then a 1000.2, and swing your 500 over to 148.

hmmm...
Upon reading this...I find that the Dish 1000 can...

"This dish can be used to pick up 129° and 148° simultaneously."

Then why do we need 2 dishes?
I am just asking for my curiosity.

That can be done, the 19° spread is the same as the designed usage for 110-119-129, though you're probably on your own to determine the proper skew. The Dish 500 could remain as it is, and you would need the DPP44.

There is no single dish solution for 110, 148, and the slots in between.

You're better off with the 1000.2, and re-point the 500.

So we know we have the right answer, which intl are you going to get?

I currently subscribe to the South Asian programming.

I spoke with Dish and they mentioned that the second dish is basically need for the HD programming. My guess is they will leave the 500 pointing to 148 and setup another one for the HD?

I am ok with 2 dishes, but what I wanted to accomplish was the ability to future proof the setup if I wanted to add move TV's later or run fewer wires.

It seems like one of the dishes with some better switches accomplish that somehow?

The 1000.2 has an integrated DishPro Plus switch (equivalent to a "DPP43") for 4 satellites and 3 receivers. Any of the receivers can be dual tuners. Should you need more than that you can add a DPP44.

You may be able to use the 1000+ to get everything on one dish since many of the South Asia channels are also on 118.75°. Check http://ekb.dbstalk.com/118list.htm to make sure everything you want is there. Otherwise, stay with 148 and add the 1000.2.
