I was just wondering if there was a "dreamlist" for the HR20, or for the next generation of Home Entertainment receivers.

D* has done a decent job filling some multimedia needs, but what's still missing?
What would be a nice feature either on this receiver or the next one that comes down the pike?

1. USB ROM Backup: Capability to backup all user-specific settings so that if the unit is replaced with a like model or hard reset the user's settings and perferences (Favorites, To Do's, regionals, displays, etc.) can be restored in seconds instead of hours. Need the USB port frontside too.

2. Import digital video via Ethernet, 802.11, or USB. Import, process and play popular video formats such as DivX, XviD, .AVI, .MPG, etc.

MRV is definitely at the top of my list. MRV with possible addons to distributed scheduling (seeing all the tuners as one pool instead of discrete HR20s).

Second would be video integration with things like WMP/WMC/Tversity/Twonky. The ability to play the same types of media as the Xbox 360 / PS3, maybe even integration to the point that if I have both cable (into a WMC PC) and D* (into the HR20s) that I could play all of those from the HR20.

Third is VOD.

Fourth is web scheduling.

Web scheduling is a very good one, and with the ethernet and wireless connections would be a nice addition.

Another one I thought of that could possibly be implemented in the current generation of receivers would be a home channel setting.
When the receiver is switched to standby, it reverts back to a designated channel so that the buffer can be a desirable one when it's turned on again.

I like leaving mine on the local OTA news station, so that I can quickly rewind and get my news and weather regardless of when I get home. But when my kids watch Sponge Bob or something, they leave it wherever they were last.

With a hoem channel, it would be right where I want it.

I like all of the above suggestions for improvement of the existing HR20’s.

But the title of the thread IS “Dreamlist” and the first sentence mentions “the next generation of Home Entertainment receivers”…….and I can Dream really big…..

OK. I know we're dreamng, and you listed some nice stuff, but let's try to stay within the known boundaries of physics and nature ;)

As for the HDMI over cat5, that dream has already come true.

I said I can dream big:)

Thanks for the HDMI over Cat 5 link. I've used S-Video and Component baluns for several years to run AV over Cat 5. I was surprised at how expensive the HDMI baluns are. I hope that is just because they are brand new. May be better (less expensive) to run some of the TV's using long HDMI cords? I don't remember how long they can be or how much they cost. I hope to switch to an "All HDMI" solution when I go to HR20's before the fall season starts.

Please vote in the Wish List for the HR20:

We know that not all of these features will be in the HR20 but hopefully will be in the next box.

I don't know. I kind of like the idea of an unrestricted think outside of the HR20 kind of a thread independent of that monster.

Nothing is back-burnered here, not even "Unlimited Storage Space", known from here on out as simply USS

USS NOW!

We need a USS poll ;)
