I am having a new DirecTV installation next week along with the hr20. My house is completly wired with the appropriate cable, as I once had Dish, and currently have digital cable. My question is to get the two tuner receiver to work correctly, will I need to have an additional cable run so there are two cables going into the HR20? Or is there other technology that takes care of this?
Thanks in advance.

If you would like to use both tuners you will need two lines ran to the DVR as of right now. Later this year DIRECTV will be coming out with a SWM (single wire multi-switch). It will allow you to run only one line to the HR20 and use both tuners. If you do a search for SWM you find some threads with all the information about it. So if you can not run another line to the HR20 you will be able to us it with only one tuner for now and get a SWM later so you will be able to use both.

At this time, you'll want at least two cables to the HR20; three if you want to use the OTA capability (diplexing is not a long-term option). The long term solution is known by the acronym SWM and is hoped to be available in the Fall (of 2007). SWM is a leap-frog of Dish's DishPro Plus technology.

Thanks for the feedback.
I guess now I have a follow up question. I am not married to either DirecTV or Dish, since I believe programming and pricing to be comparable. Since I have not had the Dtv installed yet, would I be better off switching and placing an order with Dish, since it appears they already have the technology in place to use dual tuners off of on cable?
Thanks again.

I have never had Dish. But I like DIRECTV and the HR20 very much so I would say no. Also DIRECTV first new SAT D10 just launched last week and the will start adding the new HD channels in September. So it looks as if all goes well they will be the HD leader like they said they would be. Also another big thing for me is the NFL Sunday Ticket. So if you are a big sports fan you will be much better off with DIRECTV.
