A year ago this week, I talked my Aunt and Uncle into signing up for DirecTV as they had just bought a new HDTV set. Right now they have a H20 for the HDTV and a D11 for another SDTV. They are thinking about upgrading to an HR20 so they can record shows as they often are out in the evening. They have never missed a payment or anything and are great customers. Do you think DirecTV would give them an HR20 free (my Aunt and Uncle don't mind paying shipping)? I think they would as at one year they gave us a free HD TiVo and two H20s but things might have changed.

Thanks very much for your help!

They would have to call and ask. DIRECTV has offered so many different deals to so many different people it is hard to say.

Does it really matter what any of us think? Calling DirecTV and asking would give you the answer you search for. :)

It's been one year since they first signed up. IMO I think there is a good chance they will provide an HR20 for free. Those come w/ a 2 year comitt. btw.

You may have to call more than once. It so depends on who is at the other end of the line.

My father in law has been a D* sub for years. His old RCA box died and was sent a D10 about 4 months ago. He just bought a HDTV, any chance he could upgrade to a H20/HR20 gratis?

He probably could get an H20 (non-dvr).
But to upgrade to a DVR (The HR20), then there will probably be a cost... (possible reduce), but still there will probably be a cost.

Thanks. He is technology challenged so the H20 would be the best for him. I have to walk him reprogramming his remote over the phone, a DVR would turn his brain to Jello

I used to have the retention number but since then, it has changed. How do I get transfered to retentions now or where ever I should go to get the best deal.

You can not call them directly any more. You will have to call and ask a CSR to transfer you to them.

We have been D* customers since 2/06.Our equipment wasn't installed until early 3/06.We got in right before the lease issue went into effect,so we own our current equipment, which consists of 2 H20-600s and the 5 LNB dish. Our programming has been Total Choice Plus with locals and the HD Pack all along,no changes or upgrades in regards to programming. We've never been late with paying any bills.I called D* early this morning and got an HR20 and another 5 LNB dish for $19.95 plus taxes ($21.70 total). He was looking over our account and said we were considered very good customers. We had to agree to a 2 year commitment to get it at that price. The HR 20 will be leased, but,we will keep the H20 it will be replacing. He seemed to think the LNBs were going bad on our dish due to occasional loss of some of the channels, picture freezing and blocking on some of the HD channels (signal strengths range between upper 80s and upper 90s on all sats),so he said he would add the dish to the order. He also offered 3 months of HBO and Showtime for free.Install is scheduled for this Saturday.Overall,we are pleased with our deal. :D

When you get the voice response system, think carefully about what you could ask for to be transfered. :)

I just tried online on got this message: We don't have any online offers for you right now, but please call 1-888-355-7530 for offers that are right for you.

I will try calling
btw when I logged in and tried with my account it offered me the R15 or H20 free

update: called D* and was told he has an MDU account and is ineligible for online offers. He lives in a trailer park, are those considered MDUs? He said he called D* and setup his account, so don't understand why they have him down as a MDU account.

When I got a CSR I asked for retention and he asked "why?" I told why and did not. "let me see what I can do yada yada yada. Still on hold for the Tech department

Edit: just been disconnected for the second time

Edit: Talked to a CSR this time, not someone in installation(the number in the message). It took a couple of times to get her to understand that he in NOT in a MDU. He has his own dish etc, he called D* to setup his account, not a MSO. She said she escalated it to account management to change it from a MDU to a regular account. She said it would take from 7 to 10 days. I guess I will try next Wednesday day to do an upgrade online and see what happens.
