This story in today's TVInsite (http://www.tvinsite.com/index.asp?layout=story&doc_id=106534&vertical=TVinsite&industry=u&display=breakingNews) suggests what the government might like to see as an alternative to a merger. The report suggests that the financial benefits to both D* and E* might outweigh the costs of jointly producing a "New Echostar 1" type satellite for delivering locals to all 210 DMAs.
