View Full Version : 5LNB and multiswitch
My install is scheduled for the 19th. Will the current multistwich I have in use with the 3-LNB dish work with the new one? Also will I be able to piggy-back the OTA antenna and split it out as I am currently doing?
Thanks to all you great folks who are helping us on this site.

DIRECTV will replace your multi-switch with a Zinwell WB68. It is a free upgrade but make sure DIRECTV has it on your work order that you need it.

no, not with the wb68 and the mpeg4's. the ota and the mpeg4's run on similiar bandwith and it will not work
Thanks for the quick input --- I call *D and made sure the multistwich was on the work order and it looks like I'll have to "fish" another line to the bedroom for the OTA. And that will be for PBS HD --- All the others come down from the dish.

Just a suggestion, can you put a small indoor antenna to get the PBS channel on a temporary basis? Because when the SWM [Single Wire Multiswitch] is available later this year, you WILL be able to diplex the OTA and satellite. There is a thread under Cutting Edge where some forum posters are testing this device.
Cheers,
John

Thanks, I had already thought of that. An antenna would cost about the same as a cable run and is less trouble.

i assume you are talking a diplexer .. simpla answer it NO .... tech answer ... the new satellites use the 250-750 range the diplexer uses (off air signal range)

My upgrade is scheduled for the 31st. I will end up with my existing HR10 and an HR20, which will replace my DirecTiVo. I currently have 4 cables from the 3lnb dish that go under the house and into my TiVos. Do I need or want the Zinwell multi-switch in this case? Also, I may add a 3rd receiver at some point in the future.

Since you will not need it when the HR20 is installed DIRECTV may not supply it to you for free. But if they do and if you will be adding a 3rd receiver soon I would take it have them install it.
