View Full Version : Length limit for coax runs?

Thanks in advance for everyones input.

I have a unique install. I am in a wooded area and currently only using a single dish for my install. I'm ready to upgrade to the 5LNB Slimline.

Problem is...With the trees, I will need to move my dish approx. 150ft away from my house. With the requirement of 4 coax runs, this would mean ~ 600ft of total coax needed.

My question is, reading the slimline manual, it appears that ~100ft should be the max for each coax run. If this is true, is there a device, powered or passive, that could boost the signal strength on the runs? Also, I would assume this would need to be somewhere in the middle of the run?

Thanks !

You can use 4 'in line amplifier' to extend the range. I believe each one extends it about 100 ft. YMMV.

look at this one (not a recommendation as never used it)

Use Quad Sheilded RG6 and you'll get a bit less loss. I would suggest the inline amps, but I'm at 100 ft, then I split the signal and go into two different devices (6x16 multiswitch and a SWM5) and I have great signal. I'm using quad sheilded RG6.

I really think you would be okay at 150ft without amplifiers though.
