when will directv finally add national, hdtv and international channels to its line up? I am growing very impatient w/ dtv as far as this goes and what they do from now until jan 2003 will determine whether or not I will renew for a third year. I have e-mailed and called dtv numerous times concerning this issue with the same or no results from the company. What can we as subscribers of the service do to DEMAND a SIGNIFICANT INCREASE in national, hdtv and international channels?

Adding channels would severely wreck the picture we get now.

Easing the compression when the spot beam satellite went up improved everyone's picture, and I'll take keeping the PQ I get now over adding anything new.

If you're serious about dropping Directv over this, make your plans to switch now. They won't be adding much of anything until the new spot beam satellite launches to the 119 position in late summer-early fall '03. Even then, they have given no guarantees.

Dish Network is just as unlikely to add anything, so switching there will do no good, except you might get a deal on some hardware. And cable, as always, manages to suck and blow at the same time :D

Get a DirecTiVo and I guarantee you will see your Directv service increase its value IMMEDIATELY :righton:

If you want International channels - switch to Dish - it's that simple. Oh - did we mention you'll probably have to have 2 dishes for that ?

Or, you could just stay with D* and add a Dish receiver for the international channels that you want...

If international programming is what you want, why don't you get a FTA (Free To Air) MPEG-2 DVB receiver?

International programming is available either as part of a "para todos" package (Spanish) or a la carte (other languages).

And both providers have basically all the HDTV that is out there, with the exception of networks (LiL), but that's a whole new can of worms.

Except RTPi which on Dish requires AT 50 to be taken also.
