After researching HDTV,s during the past year and heavily focusing on the Toshiba sets for the last five months, I purchased a Toshiba 65HDX82 at my local Tweeter ( Hi-Fi Buys ) store yesterday and they had it promptly delivered this morning.

I was real close to purchasing one and definitely wanted to buy from a local B&M store. I wandered into my local Tweeter`s yesterday they had a 10% off sale through this weekend...... I said ring me up :D

The set is awesome and I had my Dish HD and my DVD Player via component cables up and running before the delivery/installation guys left. GREAT PICTURE. Now I am awaiting a DirecTV receiver of choice with DVI output to finish off my home theater.

The set retails for $3199.00 and as I stated, they were offering 10% off that price :)

Welcome to the club Frap! That's a big TV!!! You will love it.

Question: Is your DVD player progressive scan? If not, you might want to start shopping for one. On top of improving the PQ from DVD's, a good progressive scan DVD player does wonders for converting non-anamorphic DVD's to anamorphic.

Absolutely ...... I had already though ahead on the DVD player.

Also, I am HAPPY to be a member of the big screen HDTV club, although I was replacing a Hitachi 55" projection ( Non-HD ) television, the Toshiba is still a big boy that is GREAT :)

That's cool. I just got my Toshiba 50HDX82 from Tweeters last Wednesday. I didn't get no stinkin' 10% off! Oh well... I don't have it hooked up to an HD receiver yet, kind of waiting for all this merger mess to straighten out before I buy a HD receiver. What a picture it has!

I was VERY surprised when I was about to try and negotiate pricing with the store manager, he said, well, we have a 10% off sale on all of our projection TV,s since the Circuit City across the street is running a sale this weekend ! I said, I`ll bet that does not include the Tosh 65HDX82, ( since C.C. does not sell that model ) he said , yep it does. That`s when I was pulling out the credit card ... before he could retract that statement.

I also received in home delivery and setup and one of the guys who was there also had a Tosh set, the non X model and was very knowledgeable on the initial setup and programming.

I have read about many people buying large HDTV`s over the internet and sometimes at a lower price than local dealers, but I would never make a purchase like that and then be stuck with a huge headache should something go wrong since the net dealers will not accept returns for any reason.

I am happy with he price I paid, the 5 yr on site warranty I bought and the fact that should I have persistent problems with my set, a simple phone call will have another one at my door quickly.:D

Anyone who buys an HDTV should have an extended warranty. I'm not big on extended warranties but with new technology such as this, it's almost a necessity. Just the cost to replace one tube is more than the cost of the warranty.

Congrats!

I really like the Toshiba RPTVs. Remember to watch in movie mode where the brightness and contrast is automatically turned to 50% and try not to watch too much content with letterbox / window box bars especially during the first 100 hours.

I agree with Toshiba RPTV,s. I could not find a set that appeared to have a better picture on the market anywhere ... and I looked at ALL of them :)

Already on top of the movie mode setting and I very much dislike ( did I say hate ) letterbox although I will force myself to endure it.

As far as the settings ... No can do chickie .... 50 - 60 on the brightness and about 70 on the contrast is as low as I can go with out feeling I am loosing picture quality that appeals to me.

www.lionav.com Gregg, are you talking about the "Theater" mode? If so I agree. The theater mode is definitely the way to go. If I remember correctly, it turns off the SVM (Scan Velocity Modulation) which when turned on, introduces unwanted artifacts into the picture. SVM is supposed to help the picture look sharper but it actually makes it worse especially when watching DVD's. Try to avoid anything other than the theater mode.

I also agree about the 50 on Brightness and 50 on Contrast although I keep mine set at 25 contrast and 35 brightness because if fits the light level of my very dark room.

WOW ...

Now those are low settings

I have to much light in the room my TV is in to go that low ( I tried it for a while ). Maybe when I build a true home theater room in the future I can go lower. But by the time I perform that task, I will be hungry for one of those huge plasma sets ;)

Gregg did my Toshiba HD set and I HIGHLY recommend his work.

Check out http://www.geocities.com/scottct1/isf.html to see some of the work he did.

When he came he et everything up so that all my brightness and contrast are set to 50%. I now have a perfect picture. One thing that Gregg does that not too many other ISF guys do is restack the screen. Now I can watch my Toshiba with the lights on with ZERO screen glare, this service alone made Gregg's fees worth it. :D

I just ordered this set (65HDX82) from Onecall for $2749 shipped. They price matched with Electronics Express. Could not find it locally anywhere close to me. Ordered the 5 year extended warranty as well for $374 and will receive a $182 credit at the end of the 5 years, if not used.

Very excited about getting this unit in. I've seen the 65H82 and was pleased. Can't help but to believe the HDX model will be better.

Now, if I can just get my hands on one of those 921's when they come out.

Sonnie, you got almost exactly the same price I did ... Congrats
:)

Boy, I can think of a few hundred folks ( or more ) on some other H.T. boards who are going to be VERY envious of you when they find out ( or by now, have found out ) that they made you such a great price since One Call has advertised that set for months at the full $3199.00 MSRP ;)

And ditto on the 921 if we can get one without bugs ........ ok, ok, I`ll stop dreaming :D

Congrats on your purchase as well Frapp.

Yeah, I was a little surprised at their price match. Electronics Express had $2549 on their site and had quoted me $200 for shipping from their store in Nashville, TN. to Troy, AL. (not a long distance). After checking into EE, I found they are an authorized Toshiba dealer but not Internet authorized. Kinda made me a little leary (may have been okay, but.....). Plus their extended warranty was $500 for 5 years.

I decided to call Onecall and see if they would price match as I'd heard a few others say that they would if the price they were matching was from an authorized dealer. And Onecall did question me about this when I called. I told them EE was authorized and they pulled it up on their computer and verified the price. Onecall then questioned me about the shipping charges. I just ask him if he wanted to make a sale or not and he said okay, he'd do it. Took them up on the 13 months interest free/payment free deal as well. Figure why not use someone elses money for a year.

Gotta love it ...

It`s nice to hear you backed them into the corner for your purchase. They always seem to beat the drum about only buying from an authorized dealer ( THEM ) when in fact "most" of the time a warranty is a warranty regardless of where the product was purchased.

Typically a company screaming authorized dealer only is simply using that as a scare tactic to get more of your dollars :(

Also, the 13 month free financing is good .... BTW ... how do you think all of us businessmen get our money to operate with ? .... we use other peoples money whenever we can :D
