Will dish network allow me to buy and set up my own equipment without a tech having to come out to my house? I have seen some bad install jobs and would prefer to do it myself if allowed.

If you buy and not lease, should be no problem.

MarkN,

I believe you can buy from Radio Shack, and do your own install. Of course, if you run the cabling and have most everything setup before the installer arrives, they will happily install good connectors, ground blocks, etc; usually to your satisfaction, and you get the "Dish Installed" 90 warranty.

I think this is a good strategy since you get the warranty and don't have to buy the equipment.

Ditto. Cabling already installed leaves the installer more time to focus on mounting and aligning the dish properly. This should be done anyway whether the cable has to be installed or not, but with three or four installations a day in the summer heat, anything to make the day go a little quicker helps out. :icon_cool

Summer heat? Its 65 and raining. Oh, I forget I live in Seattle, and this is summer. Winter is 45 and raining.

I used to live in south Texas, 90 degrees and 90% humidity.

Hey I live in Southeast Texas and work in an un air -conditioned prison in Beaumont, Tx. The humidity is a killer here. You can be in 85degree weather and stand in the shade and still sweat your ass off. It isn't a dry heat here . It is a wet heat. Wet from your head to your toes, and all the naughty places in between.

Scooper,

Nah. When it reaches 85, I finally take my jacket off. Grew up in Texas desert (El Paso) and spent 5 years in Corpus Christi. Like Mike D says, its a wet heat. 2 showers a day. Sometimes we go where the work or family is.
