I know the price of the 721 is $550-$600 for existing subscribers.

However, I'm looking at getting a system for my mother-in-law. She's a cable customer who is getting pressure to add digital cable (for more money naturally) so my wife and I were thinking of buying her a PVR-based system and bringing her monthly 'tv bill' down.

Two tuners look like a no-brainer here so I'm guessing I'm limited to a DirecTiVo (35 hours) and a Dish 721 (90 hours).

I'd go for the 721 if I could get the price down for her a bit. (And I'd go for the Series 2 TiVo with Directv if I could get a bigger hard drive in there).

Check out Dish Depot, I just got my system from them.  Cheapest price I found $519 ( existing customer) and free shipping.  Very nice guy on the phone.  The system should be a little cheaper for a "new" sub because Dish makes up the $ on the contract.  Link is all over this site.

I assume that it is too late, but I just googled and found that the current price is about $340 over at http://www.thesatelliteguy.com/echostar.html

and by further searching it may be less..

I got my new sub 721 from allsat for $389+whatevers. Came in the post, had a local Dish unit install it (was their first 721 to install; they liked it as much as me).

I couldn't find a cheaper price with a reputable company for a new sub.
