I just started to notice a HUGE delay when I change channels, I get a black screen for a short time before it finally locks into the channel I tuned to.
I have tried to use the Program guide to locate the channel, then hit "Select" and I have tried to just type in the channel number.
I have powered down the VIP211 and I have done a check switch, and unplugged it.
I have NO PROBLEM switching from Local channels via off air antenna.

I have noticed it seems slower lately, like a couple or so seconds before a new channel pops in... but I guess it just hasn't bothered me that much beyond just noticing it.
My 721 receiver started doing that. I reset to factory defaults and did a check switch. Now it is not as slow as it was.
I just had a second 622 installed and immediately noticed the long delay in changing channels. It seems to only affect video. I get the new channel's audio while the screen is still black. I thought maybe it was related to using HDMI or to the LCD TV. Will have to check my older 622 which uses component video and is CRT RPTV to see if the delay is there too.

Mine's been doing this since day one. Of course, I had wiring/reception problems for the first 3 weeks, but even now that it's fixed, I still get the audio first for a second or two before the video comes in.
I attribute this delay with the LNB and its internal switch for the DISH 1000.2. Just takes a little extra while for the fulk A/V signal to go through the switch. T he only time I'd worry about his is if the A/V starts to become desynchronized. THEN you'd have a problem.

The Tech was here for a while, he ended up replacing my Dish1000 with a Dish1000 Plus (1000.2)
he also moved the dish itself leaving old cable hanging in peices (what a lazy *******)
Don't worry dude, I'll clean up YOUR mess.....
Oh well, all is working fine now.

Just for clarification... A Dish 1000.2 is not the same as a Dish1000+.
The Dish1000+ is designed for the 118.7 location (as well as 110/119/129).
A Dish 1000.2 is only designed for 110/119/129 but is a larger dish to help pull in signals from fringe locations.
So I would guess you got a 1000.2 and not a 1000+.

It says 1000 on the Dish and Dish plus on the back of the LNB's.

If the center lnb has a huge cyclops like eye, it's a 1000+, if it has three equal sized lnb's its a 1000.2.

My 622 has always had a delay so I haven't noticed the delay being longer more recently. It might have to do with the compression ratios that might be changing as Dish prepares for new channels and the upgrades to MPEG4, etc.
I have a buddy who has digital cable TV. Instead of a blank/black screen for a few seconds, the screen comes up really fast, but the first approx 2 seconds it's a lot of jargon/pixelation until you get a normal image--a lot like satellite TV does those few seconds before you lose signal from heavy rains.
The 'delay' would be a phenomenon of compression as the signal "fills in." (Even my Sirius radio in the car has a slight delay although not as long as TV.) This could also explain why your audio is coming in quicker b/c there is much less bandwidth in sound compared to video. I would suspect that DN made it so the screen is black until there's a 'full' image or otherwise people would think that something is wrong with the receiver.
To test if it's something that's going on in the switch, you could switch between channels that come off of 110 vs. 119 vs. 129 and see if there is a longer delay when the channels are coming off different satellites compared to the same satellite.
Of course, giving it the Microsoft Treatment (aka reboot) might solve the problem. Your system could have the hiccups from the software updates recently.

We have a winner!
It has three lnb's.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Per the other post just above, it sounds like you have a 1000.2
The "Dish Plus" on the back of the LNBs refers to DishProPlus technology in those LNBs.
It isn't always easy to keep the terminology straight, especially with so many things having very similar names.

Anyone have a spare thesaurus they can lend to Dish?
