I've had it. My main complaint was that it gets too hot and the guide is too slow. Get a Samsung box, the guide is faster.

Which one do you have? Am I correct that it does NOT have the WINK software in it?

I don't have the samsung boxes. I also don't have any regular boxes. I have a DirecTiVo and UltimateTV.
All of the Samsungs have Wink built in.
Here are the specs on the SIR-S70:

And here is the SIR-S75:
http://www.samsungusa.com/SamsungUSA/PRODUCT/20020619/sir75.pdf
The SIR-S70 has only stereo audio out, composite and S-video while the SIR-S75 has Dolby Digital Toslink out and component video out in addition to these. The SIR-S75 also has a 7 day guide as opposed to 3.5 days on the S70.
They also have miscellaneous features that others are missing like image freeze and games. That and the fact that they're priced a whole lot cheaper for existing subs will swing in their favor.
I don't see WINK mentioned anywhere in these ads. I checked out www.americansatellite.com and it's not mentioned there either... Don't assume.

I'm not assuming.
thesatelliteguy.com has them for $99 and lists wink as one of the features:

"ALAMEDA, CA and LAS VEGAS, NV (July 19, 2000) -- Wink Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: WINK), America's leader in 'one-click' enhanced broadcasting and commerce on television and Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. announced today they have entered into a multi-year strategic agreement to integrate Wink's Enhanced Broadcasting technology into DIRECTV System receivers manufactured by Samsung."

Just my thoughts, but I wouldn't buy any thing that was made by RCA. Check out some of the post in here about the RCA receivers that should help you. :)

The RCA 485RG has lots of cool features, but I have to agree that the guides are too slow. Also, numerous people have reported problems with all the RG series receivers frequently crashing. For some people, it's daily...for others it is weekly or only happens once in a while. While I enjoy the Dolby Digital, Caller ID, UHF remote, 7 day program guide, WINK, component outputs, VCR control, Program Suggestions, etc., I could do without the crashes/reboots.
The 450 RG has many of the same features as the 485RG...and all of the same problems.
Folks,
Just wanted to confirm that the Samsung recv S70 and S75 are NOT WINK enabled. I asked a rep w/ Americansatellite.com and here's her response:
Thank you for your inquiry with American Satellite & Entetainment. In
response to your question, no, the S70 and S75 do not have DirecTV interactive (WINK) capabilities.
I hope this answers your question. Feel free to contact our sales
department with any additional questions at 1-888-999-7331.
They may not be WINK enabled now, but after looking through the manual I've concluded they will likely have WINK added in the future. The remote has the 'i' icon on it, and the receiver is capable of receiving updates, so it certainly looks like they've planned for WINK.

Well, someone needs to inform thesatelliteguy.com that they don't or else they could get sued for false advertising.

Update concerning my 485RG receivers:
My 485RGs received software updates on 11/6 at 2:40 am.
So far, it looks like the bad links to channels (ESPN Classic) were fixed, the date information isn't lost, the receiver hasn't crashed/reset (yet), and the guide appears to move slightly faster (even with 7 full days of listings).
If this software upgrade fixes these problems for good, then I'll have no complaints about these receivers.

Hope the download fixed the 485, as I own one to. I look forward to being able to use it like it was meant to be used. I live in the Central time zone so I guess I'll have to wait for my update. Question, would it be best if the reciever is off or on or does it make a differents? Thanks again David for the information.

My receivers were off and both received the upgrade. I don't know what would happen if they were on.
