We had some severe weather here on Long Island, NY this week but my dish looks like it hasn't moved an inch. Also checked my wiring outside and all looked fine. Which is why I cannot figure out why I lost my signal to all three receivers in the house. Wow its rough going without any TV! Can you guys help me troubleshoot? I called D* and they're sending someone out Saturday between 1-5 (there goes my day).

All receivers zero points to the dish. Out of alignment or bad LNB assembly, would be my guesses. [and why I carry a spare just in case]

Even though your dish appears to have not moved it is still possible. I had the same problem a few months ago - all signals at 0. The dish looked totally normal, but it actually had rotated on its axis only a few degrees and that was enough to knock out all sats.

Sounds like the problem I'm having. Guess its not too bad since D* offered to charge me only $14.95 for the service call (instead of $70) if I bought the protection plan; which I did. They also gave me $5 off my bill for 6 months for the inconvenience.

If your dish does not have the two monopoles installed, to help keep it from moving, make sure that they get installed when they come back out.

How long have you had the dish? If it's less than 90 days they should not be charging you for a realignment.

It was installed in April w/ the monopoles. Why should I have to pay for equipment that fails when its not my fault and already pay so much per month for programming? Just venting...

To play devils advocate, should D* eat the cost of a service call if it was say a tree that fell on your dish and knocked it out of alignment? You monthly bill is strictly for programming amd mirroring/lease fees, and of course the protection plan if you choose to add it.

I get your point completely, but I checked out the area before I called and no trees were involved in any way.

D* is "supposed" to be here between 1-5 today so I'll keep you guys updated.

i think the point was .... nature ... high winds can cause your dish to "fail" also aka move slightly on its mountpole

True enough. In my case, the installer didn't tighten the mounting bolts enough to the pole, allowing it to spin out of alignment. It was an easy fix for me, but it never should have happened.

as amazing as that sounds .. it happens a lot .... one simple fix ... drive a self tapping screw thru the collar into the mount pole once you are happy with the alignment

That's exactly what I did.

I never would do this as I might need to mount it somewhere else, BUT I did have them go back over all of the bolts after I found some loose.
Over a year now with no problem.

Couldn't you just remove the screw if you wanted to mount it somewhere else?

Yes, but:
1) You don't need to "peg it" with the screw as the clamping bolts work fine.
2) if your new location is only slightly different, then you'll need to pick another location for the screw as the old one can be close enough to have overlap and not work anymore.
None of these are a "deal breaker", so if you "feel better" go for it.
I have done this with my antenna mast [OTA] and now wish I hadn't, as I want to still tweak it, which I lost the ability to do now.

Ok here is my update after the tech came out to the house today. He claimed I had the wrong multi-switch for my 5 LNB dish (a powered 4x8 was on there and he attached a 6x8 instead). I don't know enough about this equipment to know this stuff, but seems to me the last tech who swapped out my dish should have done this then.

But of course anytime a tech comes to the house, another problem pops up. I checked all the channels while he was here and it all looked fine. But then when I tried to record programs on my H20, only one of the tuners will now record. Any idea how to fix this?

Problem solved -- I switched the cables and reset the H20 and it now records on both tuners. Woo-hoo!!!

The reset is most likely what caused it to work. During boot up, it checks how many lines are hooked into the tuners (one or two), and adjusts accordingly.

Yes, the only two multiswitches that work at this time for the Slimline 5lnb combo with the HR20/H20 is the Zinwell 6x8 (8 outbound connections) or the Zinwell 6x16 (16 connections)
