This seems the best place to post that as hopefully more of the tech people will see it here.

The Super Buddy Satellite Meter from Applied Instruments can get a signal on the D* Ka signals on 99 and 103 - but it cannot lock on the birds.

It obvious that the current 99W and 103W are not using 8PSK - but it appears to be some dirivitive of DVBS2, which is why it cannot be locked on.

1) Does anyone know for sure which modulation scheme are on 99/103 currently?

2) Is this due to the fact that these birds were originally meant for another purpose?

3) Does anyone know what modulation method the new birds will be using - or will they stay with this modulation scheme?

This is of interest as it would help tell how much bandwidth is available on each transponder.
