My Directv HR10-250 Receiver is stuck on powering up. Directv said they would send me the new HD Receiver they have and another one to replace the other HD Receiver that will not pickup the hd channels come September for $198.00. I have to give them both of my owned receivers for the least ones. What would you do?

2 HR20's for $198 is a good deal. I would do it. You will need them to receive the new HD starting in September.

If you do it make sure they install a 5 LNB dish and if you need a multi-switch make sure the add the Zinwell WB68 to the work order. Both are free upgrades.

I rarely hear of the installers taking the old receivers. I'm surprised D* wants it back. I think you may have been told what was on a the CSR's script. Don't be surprised if the installer doesn't even ask you about it. Maybe something has changed recently, but I don't think so.

What is your other receiver?

I would really be surprised if, in fact, they do want the old units at all, most people have reported they get left behind by the tech.

Also if they do want them the installer will not take them. If anything DIRECTV will send you prepaid shipping boxes for FedEx to send them back to them. But I doubt they will do it.

Also, if i understand your post correctly, Bmore is correct, 198 for 2 HR20's is a good deal. Make sure they are clear you want the multi-switch. If it's not on the work order, many installers won't provide it. They won't get paid for the install of it.
Also, if you do not have more than 4 tuners total amongst all of your receivers, they may not even provide it.

Good Luck.

No just 1 of the HR20`S and another HD receiver. The HD receiver was going to replace a old RCA HD Receiver.

That would be the H20.

Still not a bad deal. But I would call again and ask for a better deal or to make it two HR20's.

Here is a thread to look at. It will either help you or frustrate you.

I know neither of the receiver are going to be good for anything but I hate to give them something that I bought and payed for. To get their least receivers in return.

My HR 10 died a couple of months ago and they sent me a refurbished HR 20 700 to replace it for cost of shipping. But my HR 10 may have been leased - I'm honestly not sure. But I would call and try to get a better deal on the replacement HD DVR myself.

If I understand correctly they want to replace your hr10-250 for $198 and throw in an h20 for free...

This to me is not such a great deal....ask for an equal replacement of hr10-250 for free...

My hr10-250 failed several months ago they asked me to pay about $200 or so to guarentee an hr20-? I said no just send an equal for free as a replacement and sent an (excelent) refurb hr20-700.

Don't bite on this one ask for an equal first!

Hey.

If you want to know FOR SURE if you have to send back your HR10-250 in exchange for the replacment, check a few things:

1) The box the HR20 comes in will have a big red plastic pouch/envelope on it, which contains the return tag for Fed Ex.

2) OR, did the rep give you an 8 digit (or more) order confirmation number for your Equipment Replacment Program?

3) Call, wait for it....

wait....

Yes, you guessed it, CIS! Customer Installation Support handles installs, tracking of shipped receivers and non-returned equipment. I

f you call them at 1-888-355-7530, they can check the order, and see if a return authorization (usually an automatic line item generated by the system) is on the order. If so, then yes, you have to return the HD Tivo. If not, then you don't have to return the HD Tivo.

Hope that helps.

If your HR10-250 and HD receiver are owned, they don't need them back. If they still function and you still want to use them, just keep them active. If they are not functional, then they are doorstops anyway. I've got several HR10-250s that I will be keeping to use for OTA recording of my locals, as well as SD programming. My HR20s will be used for the MPEG4 stuff.

Its quite possible it might just be a bad hard drive, easily replaceable, so it might be worth your while to replace the drive and keep using it as a spare for OTA recordings and mpeg2 material like others have mentioned....if I had one, I would probably go that route with it, provided they really arent taking yours back. If its truly owned, I doubt they are going to ask for it back.

Most replacement orders for the HR10-250 do not require the receiver be returned. However, you appear to have been quoted for a "swap" offer, which is different than a standard receiver replacement. I would call back to verify what you were told
