I have the 5 LNB dish from D and I'm thinking about putting a cover over it before the winter. Can anyone tell me if a cover would have any effect on the signal.
I live in N.E. Pennsylvania and last year I had a buildup of snow or ice a few times and lost the signal until I cleaned it off. Is it worth it to put a cover on or not ??

heaters are usually better as a lot of times the ice and snow will build up on the cover defeating the whole purpose

There's this one too: www.icezapper.com
Not sure which would work better. The one I mentioned won't effect signal though (Other may not, I'm not sure).

The O.D. doesn't seem to heat very well on this model or isn't the O.D. that important? Just asking because I have no idea what area is the most important.
I'd stay away from the dish covers. When I got my dish over 5 years ago, a coworker got his set up at the same time. He got a cover for his. I went looking for one, thinking it would be a good thing to have. Fortunately I couldn't find any out there - and the one salesman at Best Buy convinced me to stay away from them. While the covers themselves supposedly don't interfere with the signal, they can trap things that DO prevent the signal from getting through. My friend kept complaining about how often he lost his signal. I said "funny, I almost never lose mine." He noticed that things like leaves (and as you know if there's one thing that PA has ALOT of is leaves in the fall) would collect on his cover, weighing it down. The leaves would be trapped up on his dish interfering with the signal. It wasn't long before he was trying to figure out how to get the cover OFF his dish.
