We just switched from Dish Network to Directv in December (big mistake-long story)! We have the DVR reciever and it was working fine until last weekend. We had a small thunderstorm, but nothing major and it must have messed something up. The dish has 2 cables coming out of it running directly to the back of the receiver with just the one receiver. I called tech support and did all they told me to......reset, switched cables, yada, yada and still nothing. On the signal screen it is showing we are only receiving every other transponder. The tech said it was a splitter problem even though I informed her we had no splitter. She wanted to send a repair guy out to the tune of at least $75 and I said no thanks for now.

I remember once having a problem with our Dish Network and it was the mult dish switch-is this what this problem sounds like? I really hate to get a repair guy out here for something I can fix myself!!

Thanks!

If you have a multi-switch connected it sounds like you may have a problem with the 18v input from the dish. If you do have a multi-switch connected try by passing it and connect a line directly from the dish to the receiver. If that fixes the problem you need to have DIRECTV replace the multi-switch.

It could be the multiswitch built into 3- and 5-LNB dishes. What do you see on-screen for channels 490-494 (these are test channels)?

is this on every sat signal, or just a certain one that has every other transponder working? since you mentioned a T-storm, this might have knocked the dish out of alignment.
but..... need more "info" on all satellite's signal strengths

From what you say, you don't have an external multiswitch. Two cables from the dish to the DVR. Nothing (except maybe a ground block) in between.

Try swapping the two leads on the back of the DVR, then do a reset of the DVR and see what you have.

Are you missing even or odd transponders? It takes 13V from the receiver to the dish to get odd, and 18V from the receiver to the dish to get even. If you are getting odd but not even, you probably have a voltage drop someplace. Check connectors for moisture or corrosion.

The other primary cause would be the LNB assembly in the dish itself. Less likely, but possible, is the DVR.

Check what bobneilsen said above and post your results, and follow Carl6s advice above. Both are great pieces of advice.

I purchased my HR20 at Best Buy. On tuner 2 I was recieving only even transponders. Tuner 1 was fine. Took it back and exchanged for a new unit. Ended up being a bad tuner.
