I ordered for my Dad today.

CSR said he could have one HR20 for $19.95, but if he wanted another HR20 he had to go to Bestbuy or CC to get it. Why couldn't D* just send 2?

They have said that to a lot of people because they don't have enough supply of the HR20's. You may be able to call back and talk to someone else and have them add a second but not sure about tht.

Yea, Bmore is right. I'd call back. You probably won't get a second for 19.95, but I think you can squeeze another out. If you do go the BB route, some folks have gotten a few bucks credited on there account for X amount of months.

I would imagine since the new SAT went up they have had an increase of requests for the HR20. That's whay I called the day after D10 went up and got my 3rd ordered.

Wow, that was the case when I bought mine a while back...I can't believe that's still the case.

But, yeah, CC or BB is an easy 2nd choice.

me either? agreed that CC or BB is an easy 2nd choice,

but.. when it came time for the rebate, it was hard to get them to honor it. they said that i already had the $100 instant rebate applied to my account. for they only acknowledge 1 per account.

maybe after few short months you can call and ask what kind of deal you can get for another HR20.
like i just done, and now after having months of great payment history. i called and asked what kind of deal i could get on another HR20. they said, i could get it for only $99.

God, I dread the call I'll have to make in a few months to trade my 2 HR10-250's for HR20's. I've been with D* for 12 years now. I think if they don't give my at least 2 HR20's and a new dish for free, I think I'll walk. I've never really been upset with D*, but today when they wouldn't give my Parents 3 receivers at their new house, I got really pissed. I'm going to be way more demanding when I make the call to trade in my Tivo's.

on your hr10-250's, you'll probably get them exchanged now. i heard sometimes they will for a upgrade offer a free or just shipping cost for the first hr10. the 2nd might be $99. sometimes if you don't like the first offer (be polite). try calling back in a few minutes to get another CSR and they might give a different deal.

but.... the key is be very calm and polite with them.

now with your father's issue, try what i suggested on paying on time and call in a few months and ask about what kind of deal he could get for another HR20. CSR juggle sometimes works. or go to BB/CC to get it now.

Ya they don't always seem to have a consistent message. I was suppose to get 2 Hr20 to replace my 2 HR10s and I ended up with 3 free.

After 6 months of on-time bill paying, you'll definitely be eligible for some special offers. Maybe free, maybe not.

I guess I haven't been clear. My Parents have been customers since I got them to switch from Dish over 5 years ago. They currently have 4 receivers, a bill of over $125 per month, and have never been late.

What I should have said was, after they obtain one HR20, six month later D* will offer them further discounts or free receivers.

Interesting!

Last week, I posted something about my calling D* and telling them I had a failing Hughes HDVR2 (Non-HD). Immediately, the CSR offered me 2 HR20's in order to get those 2 DirecTivo's off my account. I did not ask for the HR20's just said the Hughes was failing and was going to need to deactivate it and get some kind of replacement.

I was puzzled as to why D* would offer me 2 HR20's (for $19.95) when I had not asked for them and when supposedly they were in such short demand.

It did not take long for someone to post back that they have plenty of refurbed HR20-700's and new HR20-100's to handle demand issues.

Does D* have enough? Why are they being stingy to some and handing them out like candy to others?

fluffybear,

You are fortunate. This is the one thing (CSR Roulette) I hate about my beloved D*. In the end, the whole retention, csr roulette thing is going to leave a bad taste in peoples mouth. Hell, it's like negotiating new car deal or something. No one pays the same thing. That's why when I call to trade in my HR10-250's, I am going to demand the world or walk over to E*

If My Dad calls back to see if he can have another HR20 added, I let you all know what happens.

Another option to BB and circuit city is check your local costco for the HR20. The 2 stores near me always seem to have at least 20-30 of them in stock and at a bit of a discount. Good luck.

I don't know if this has changed, but when I ordered all of my equipment in January (switched from cable), I was told that I could only order 2 pieces of "advanced equipment" which was defined as HR20, H20, or R15. They told me that if I wanted more than 2 pieces, to have the first order installed, and then call back and upgrade. I thought this was insane, but several different people confirmed this policy. So when I ordered, I requested a HR20, H20 and 2 D11s. Once all of the receivers were installed, I called back and upgraded one of the D11s to and R15 with no problem. Maybe this is what you are running into. Or, maybe the HR20 is just being rationed due to an expected explosion in demand due to the new sat. When I first got digital cable, Cox did this with the digital receivers (1 per house policy).

How about this for dumb

When DirecTV made me this offer, It was explained that this was a swap and that D* would deactivate my DirecTivo's! I had some time to think about this and called D* this morning to confirm.
After about 20 minutes of chatter, hold times, etc. the CSR came back online and Yes, the installer would have deactivate those machines. He further went on to state that since all of my equipment at this point is 'Owned' that the installer would not be taking them with him.
My question to him, what is to stop me from reactivating them once the installer is gone? Not a thing! the CSR pointed out I can reactivate those machines as soon the Installer is out the door!
Why is D* making me deactivate these DirecTivo's? If I want to keep them active for a weeks, months then let me..

All connected to zinwell 6x8 (need SWM for LR HR20 and future HR20's in other bedrooms )
which is connected to AU9 and
OTA diplexed to 50" and 32".

If everything I hear is true, SWM should be on the streets sometime this fall.

FluffuBear,

I would be surprised if the installer cares to de-activiate the TIVO's. They really don't care. They just want to do there job and move onto the next one. I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I haven't ever heard of that policy being enforced.

Good Luck.

fluffybear,

When I moved I was told they needed to upgrade my HR10-250s to HR20s. Got a good deal, said go ahead. Then I asked, "One of those HR10-250s is leased - will the installer be taking that with him?". They told me as long as I kept it active, I would not need to return it. So I've kept the three HR10-250s active the whole time. There was never talk of deactivating them, and I agree - an installer is not going to give a rat's butt about deactivating them.

If you want to keep them active, you should be able to with no trouble. Just the additional $4.99 a month for each of them.

The guy is a independent contractor for Premiere Satellite (who D* has assigned this upgrade to) and according to him, D* will not pay Premiere who in turn will not pay him unless he deactivates 2 machines because the work order specifically says the word "SWAP".

Like I told the CSR, not a big deal for me, I will just let him deactivate 2 machines while he is here and activate them again!
Even if he wants to take the old access cards as proof, it really is not a problem as I have small box full of band new ones downstairs (I have always just remarried cards to new receivers when I've
upgraded)

We will just have to wait and see what happens when he comes back on Thursday with the correct equipment. When he was here on Saturday, he had 2 H20's on the truck not 2 HR20's.

This is one of the reasons I really hate this new policy of D* where "It must be Professionally Installed". Just send me the equipment and if you must have someone come out then at least I will have the right equipment in hand.
