I sent a compliment on the upgrade video that was sent down to 50x owners and asked if the Colorado Avalanche will go all the way this year.

There is a Discrepancy with Tech Chat date,
I guess the date below is incorrect (below are all the upcoming chat dates from http://steve.dbstalk.com/charts/dish_chats.htm link (or something like that)

Steve - i guess your date is incorrect then.

Well of course I'd like to see some info on 721 bug fixes, and a timeline for future features would be nice, internet, weather, slo-motion, frame by frame..

RAD
11-07-02, 05:28 AM
Any and all information in new HDTV STB's and PVR's. The 6000 is very out of date and Dish needs an upgrade ASAP. I'd like real specific information, not a here's a 921 that does 40 hours, what's the interfaces, etc.

Would definitely like to see schedule for bug fixes and expanded features on 721.

Don't forget folks, call in before the show starts if you want to have a better chance of being on the air.

The number is 1-888-621-2078

TopCat99

Does that mean we may hear you on the air, Chris? ;)

I am really confused. The Dish PG says that the Tech Forum is on 11/12/02 and not 11/9/02? Which date is it on?

Darkman
11-07-02, 10:29 AM
it's been fixed now to be 12th...
But just in case - some1 should call Dish and double-check maybe...

If Dish really reads this forum, please answer these questions:

When will Dish fix their lip-synch issues?
When will the 501 get Slo-mo?
When will existing HD channels convert to 8psk?
When will existing 6000 users get a free 8psk mod?
When will Dish add more HD channels?
When will Dish start delivering more DD 5.1?
When will the 921 be available?
When will Dish implement local PSIP channel info on the 6000?
Will Dish implement closed captioning on the 6000?

Thank you.

Once again the Tech Forum, like the Charlie Chat, does not appear on the DISHPlayer EPG. Why?

When will the DISHPlayer start using the DISH 7-day EPG as announced on the 5/02 show? That would take care of the above question and cut the manual/random 5-min download from 5 to 2 minutes.

How about an overview of how spot beams work?

Is it true the 6000 has been discontinued? Will its replacement get to dealers by the time existing inventory runs out? And where are HDTV DVR models?

Show DishPro LNBs, switches, the legacy adapter, and how about some diagrams?

What features and fixes are in 501 software version P167? Is slo-mo still on schedule for December release?

Will local channel mapping be added to any more receivers? Why does it take hours to appear?

Any possibility of a "401" receiver with 2 sets of A/V outputs and optical digital out to replace the discontinued 4x00 line? Of course, it would have to have enough RAM to hold at least a few hours of the guide.

It's not on the guide on the 501 either. I had to set a manual PVR timer. Grrrrrr.

Show DishPro LNBs
I saw a Radio Shack commercial for Dish last night and they had a closeup of a dish with a DishPro LNB attached. It looks more square and boxey than the dual LNB.

TopCat99, I found it on the 501 guide on 11/4. Were you looking at the corrected date, Tu 11/12? I will have to record it on my DP because my 501 will be busy recording almost everything else that night. If they get the DP guide updated in time I won't have to go through the clunky DP manual timer setup (let us type the time - I don't recall anyone asking to have to use drop-down lists).

Hey the gave us somnething to ask about:)

The 301 mess and how it occured and more importandely whats been done to prevent a re occurence.

Of course I would like beaping remote finders in high end receivers like the 721.

A overview with release date of the 522.

BobaBird, thanks for the update. My 501 shows it now. And it "converted" my manual timer to the new program. Woohoo!

my questions:
Why transmit the extended 2day EPG only on TP 19 (in DVB sections, not E* proprietary form)
Why not transmit the 7day EPG on all the transponders? is it even transmitted on one of them and I haven't found it?
Will the Holiday channel have new content this year? (charlie's favourite, maybe he'll answer it--it IS his favourite channel)
Can we get ``NHL Center Ice'' spelled properly?
Why does the NIT and EPG for "this network" always show info for TP2 on 4100 on all the transponders instead of the correct information for "this" beam?
Why do some transponders not have any content on "The Other Network" in the SDT, 0x46?
How are PID assignments made on a transponder? (as in is there any rhyme or reason for 0x1022&1023, 1122,23 etc?
On a spot beam, are pids reused? For example if TP 6 covers the Philadelphia market, will the same pids be used in Albuquerque? What happens if two spots are too close together and a person could in theory receive both?
If you are an E* employee, know of a place I could get these answered, or have answers yourself, feel free to drop me a line.

I wrote:

but I should have wrote SDT and EPG, not NIT and EPG

The Holiday music channel is controled by Muzak not Dish and since this is America 'Center' is spelled correctly :)

And why do I have a feeling this TECH chat is still gonna be 99% post-merger fallout blues? ;)

Bob Haller
11-09-02, 07:28 AM
I want to add about the 301 mess. A recovery plan should always be in place. In the event of a future occurence E should be ready to send perhaps top 60 decrypted, so subs havent lost all programming. Now I realize this is charlies call but given the circumstances it would prevent hard feelings, and lost subscribers.

They should at minimum givce EVERY affected sub some PPV coupons but better would be a $20 or substantial credit for each affected sub. The fact that its saturday, and everyone has to call to get it fixed only makes it worse.
