Got 721 - now how to clean out 501??

Getting my 721 hooked up right now BUT I have about 16 hours of stuff on the 501 that I need to watch. Short of dumping it all to tape (yuk) is there a way that I can actually watch the stuff on the 501 while it is NOT connected to the dish? I have not tried it yet but my guess is I will get "Acquiring Sat Sig...Please wait"

I suppose I could make the run from my last QUAD output - but damn I'm thinking I am too lazy :blush:

any ideas?

I've not used them, but there are programs that supposedly let you rip your recorded stuff from the 501 (et al) and put it on your puter hard drive. Search Yahoo! Groups for "dishrip" and "dish explorer"

You don't need a dish connection to watch recorded shows! Just connect it up without the dish connection, wait 30 sec or so and hit the PVR button! Sometimes it will act a little funny and will make you go into the main menu and then select 8 for PVR events.

sheesh - thanks dude!!
NEVER even thought of pressing PVR button.
But guess what? went ahead and ran the cables anyway - no doubt be going hi-def in the near future...so...
