View Full Version : ex-Primestar customers - No mirroring/lease fee issues

I was moved from Primestar to DirecTV in 2000, since DirecTV bought them out. It was said that I would never get the mirroring/lease fees as an ex-primestar customer.

This stayed true all these years. Until today. I called to add PBS national (384) to my account for $1.50, and the CSR didn't know why I didn't get it for free and all this rubbish, so he took my receiver off, and then added it back.

This is now causing me to get a lease fee on that receiver. No problems for years, zero lease fees, until this.

Any idea what I need to do, or if they'll even believe me? Thanks. It doesn't even make sense. 4 receivers, and the only lease fee is being done on the primary receiver, which is suppose to get it even for normal customers.

Their records should certainly verify that you were a Primestar customer going way back, so escalate the issue to a Supervisor, or request escalation with Customer Retention.

I wanted to see though if indeed Primestar customers are not having this issue, you're still getting no fees for receivers? Thanks. I will try more later, and then if not try an email to the president.

All that happened is that when the csr added your receiver back on their system automatically adds it as a leased one, you account type will show that you were primestar, you have to call back, get xfered to that access card team and they will change it back to owned, thus eliminating the fee. The ACT is the ONLY department that can do this. If you ask for a supervisor or ask for retention the will HAVE to xfer you to the ACT.

If you ever stopped your service, you would not be grandfathered in. You would have to have had continuous service switching directly from Primestar to D*. Just pointing that out if that might play a part.

You need to find out if your acount type is PCR or PCO. If you are the R you wont have the fees PER receiver just one fee that I believe is 3 or 4 $$. If you are the O then you will have the fees per receiver just like regular customers.

Thanks. That fixed it!!! :) Once I got to the access card person, she totally understood I was primestar, and changed it to own! Thank you!!

You would as you have added a h20 receiver i bet after they started the lease program. The OP would not as the CSR disconnected a receiver that was already on the account and is owned.

yes you were a primestar customer and the receivers on your account are "grandfathered" but any other receiver added to your account after may2003 will be charged the mirroring fee whether the receiver is lease or own so calling is not going to make a difference and the receiver will be lease
