I came across this offering by the Weather Channel:

Perhaps this could be an easier solution to the Local on the 8's localization issues on E*? E* can, for example put Weatherscan for NYC area on its locals spotbeam for NY and include it with a particular area's local channels package.

That sounds like a very good idea. If that ever does happen it may take a few years.

Doesn't weatherscan come from the local cable company?

Originates from the Weather Channel via local cable operators. More regional than the Weather Channel. No commercials. Continuous regional radar display. Here it cycles through current weather and forecasts for Bellingham, Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia. Also, boat and beach, tides, air quality, Special Weather Statements, etc. No on-screen weather people. Did I mention NO COMMERCIALS. You can go there and get weather info almost immediately. Pretty nice service!

It might be easier to add one of the local station's digital subchannels. Most markets now have one or more of them carrying NBC Weather+, AccuWeather, or another product.

I didn't know this channel existed till I saw this post.I just sent dish an email asking them to put it on and sent them the link. This is our answer to local on the 8's.How about everyone that wants local weather send them an email and ask them to add this channel?I don't think were going to be getting local on the 8's like they earlier promised. This would be just as good.
