DirecTV Hits 11 Million Customers

During the past weekend, DirecTV activated its 11 millionth customer, another milestone for the satellite TV service.

DirecTV said it's now the home entertainment service of choice in one of every nine TV homes in the United States. DirecTV also is regarded as the third largest provider of multichannel TV in the United States.

The company launched its offering in June 1994.

"This milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all DirecTV employees and the support of our programmers, retailers and partner companies who believed in us from the beginning," said Roxanne Austin, president and COO at DirecTV.

What does this mean?
Do they have 11M paying customers? or 11M accounts which include those 700,000 compromised units in Canada + an estimated 11% compromised in US - so that they really have about 9M paying customers

I'm not feeding the guest trolls :), but it is 11 million paying accounts, many of whom have more than one receiver, which is four million more paying accounts than their nearest competitor. They are in the process of replacing all access cards and cutting hackers off like the 50,000 that lost service last month, but no pay tv service is 100% hack proof.

AMEN Brother ... if everyone paid their way service would be about 5 bucks lower per person and d* would still make the same money. Guys who steal tv will steal anything and deserve whatever the criminal justice system does to them PERIOD!!!!!!

in canada their is almost 2 million customers that have directv, estamates of 700,00 is low.

I believe that the 11 Million also includes DirecTv South America in the figures. Does anyone know the number of subs in DTVSA?

Not that many. Most of them are in PR and Brazil.
