View Full Version : Please help us get the Mountain channel on Directv!!
Hello everyones,
I am happy for Big 10 fans will get their own channel, my hats offs to them....
But for us in the Mountain West Conferences we have been begging to Directv to carry the MTN!! "Mountain sport channel":(
I live in Albuquerque, NM and I am a UNM Lobos football and basketball fan for many years and we used to get on OTA and somtime on ESPN and rarely on CSTV.
Like many of us are on Directv or Dish have no way of getting this channel unless we start a E-mailing to Directv by many of us will make a big differences that will make Directv to carry MTN channel coming this fall season.
It's only on Comcast and nothing else, and I refuse to go to Comcast with their over priced stuffs, and I love my NFL Sunday Ticket and Directv is the best for their sports covereges.
So please help us out there!!
Thanks!!

email sent - response received - what are the odds of getting a CR with the same first name?
Dear Mr. Short,
Thanks for writing. I understand your concern about the MTN channel. I see that you've been with us since November of 1996 and we would like you to know that we appreciate your business. As you know, we don't carry the Mountain West Network (the MTN) right now, but we’re in discussions with the programmer and we can’t discuss the details of our ongoing negotiations. Be assured that we’re working very hard to add this exciting sports network to our channel lineup.
We often add programming based on customer requests, so thank you for letting us know how much you want to watch sports on the MTN. I have forwarded your request to DIRECTV management.
If we begin offering this channel in the future, would you like us to contact you by email when it’s available? If so, please reply to this email to confirm that you agree to be contacted.
In addition, whenever we add channels to our lineup, we release a statement to the press, so keep an eye on the news to find out about the newest channels or visit our website at directv.com/pr.
Thanks again for writing and please stay tuned to directv.com for the latest news and information about our services.
Sincerely,
Reggie N
I'll get an e-mail out myself. One thing to remember D is the leader in Sports so it is a good idea to play up this fact in your e-mails :)

That must be the standard answer because that's what I got also. But really it took me years to get that type of response on my requests for The Tennis Channel so may be that response is a good sign :)
Email sent...I'll never switch to Comcast, but I'd love for the negotiations to be successful and for D* to the the mtn. I hate not being able to watch all of the local sports teams compete.
Here in Utah there are several Comcast billboards around rubbing in the fact that they have the mtn and satellite does not. Yeah, they really want to get the channel to the satellite providers. No, really...they do. wink, wink, nudge, nudge
I sent in my email regarding Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast and I added the MTN for you. I received a similar response.
Thanks for writing about the channels that you would like to receiver. We don't carry Charter Sports Southeast right now. In addition, we don't carry the Mountain West Network (the MTN) as well. Be assured that we’re working very hard to add this exciting sports network to our channel lineup.

I see that you have a HD-DVR. To make sure that you continue to receive all of our HD programming - including new HD programming we’re launching later this year - you will need to make sure that a device called a B-band converter is connected to each Satellite-In port on your DIRECTV HR20 receiver. The B Band Converter came in the carton with your receiver and if you had professional installation, it is most likely already connected.
For instructions on how to check for B Band Converter connection or to order one, go to directv.com/bbc
I hope you find this information helpful and thank you again for writing.

The Mtn. is such a joke! There was a big push here in Utah last week for fans to call DirecTV and Dish Network and complain and ask for them to pick it up. It seems to have mostly resulted in a lot of confused CSR's giving out incorrect info and little more. With the amount that Comcast is asking for the distribution rights, they'll never pick it up (or they will, but charge you $50 to subscribe to it).
So complaining to D* or E* does no good. And complaining to Comcast does no good - they'll just remind you that you can subscribe to them. So, start calling and writing your university presidents and athletic directors - they're the ones that really carry the weight in the conference. Maybe they can get Craig Thompson (the MWC commissioner) fired over this stupid deal and push the conference itself to demand that Comcast fix things.

Considering the bitch that Comcast is putting up over the Big Ten Network, this is kind of comical to say the least. The level of hypocrisy you get when a cable company owns a TV network is incredible.

Yes I know relations between Comcast and D aren't good. They just won a law suit against D, what more do they want  May be the people that should be getting the e-mails is Comcast? They aren't in my area (thank goodness) so I don't know how to contact them.

Actually the chances of getting a RSN/channel from Comcast are not that bad. True the CSN Philly situation you can blame the FCC and Comcast for that one due to the "loophole". But other than that channel and obviously the mtn. most channels that Comcast provides are on D*. Agreed clearly the situation with the mtn was not handled well from the onset though I wonder if part of the blame for this mess shouldn't lay with the schools of the Mountain in not keeping a close eye on what their partner was and was not doing as far as negotiating fairly.
tonyd79
08-22-07, 09:17 AM
I will still say spotty as the only situation where Comcast can keep the channel off D* and E*, they chose to do so. The law doesn't force it off the satellites but allows them to keep it off. Comcast had no recourse with the other RSNs and the outcry would have been much bigger than the MTN.

I saw an internal Comcast memo. Talks about making the customer pay for the BTN directly. And how expensive it is. No mention that it is cheap outside Big Ten territory. No thought about having the BTN grows the business. Comcast is the ultimate middle man. No planning. Just gimme money.
When you challenge them and tell them D* adds channels without raising the rate, they throw back "enjoy your non-TV when the rain hits" lie.

Well as I said Comcast isn't in my area, but I had picture problems with every cable company I ever had--even if it wasn't raining  Our cable situation is bad anyway. No company ever stays they just keep getting bought out by other companies  I don't know why anyone would want cable in my area

Cable varies so much it is hard to give a hard fast rule to cable across the country but there sure are good and bad cable areas like yours.
The MTN and D and E* are still talking, but no deals yet. The spokesperson for the MTN said Comcast was NOT the problem. The Network is bleeding money and they need deals with other providers to try to stop the bleed. Right now they are targeting D hard. This is according to a story I found in a Google News Search. So I suggest that everyone interested in the MTN call or e-mail D. I will send out another e-mail myself.
I got my e-mail sent. And I wanted to add that the story said Comcast owned 17 sports channels and that 13 of them were also on D and/or E*.
So it really seems that the MTN spokesperson was right that Comcast does want deals done. So all you MTN supporters keep at D HARD :box:
And remember D is the Sports Leader :)
EDIT: The above should read Comcast owns or partly owns 17 sports channels.

Thanks for writing. I see that you have been with DIRECTV for many years and I would like to let you know that we appreciate your continued support.
As you know, we don't carry the Mountain West Network (the MTN) right now, but we’re in discussions with the programmer and we can’t discuss the details of our ongoing negotiations. Be assured that we’re working very hard to add this exciting sports network to our channel lineup.

Well I'm sure it is a bad cycle to be in. They need both money and providers. Yet since they need money so badly they hate to drop their price. But if they don't drop it they probably won't get more providers--and around and around it goes  :( Also a sticking point with D could be what package the MTN wants to be placed on. It seems like none of the sports channels want to be part of the sports package. They all want on a basic package so there will automatically be more viewers able to see their channel.
I just sent an other E-mail to Directv asking them to carry this MTN channel!!
