Cablevision, which this week sold assets and received outside investment to bridge a potential funding gap, is to go ahead with plans to launch a direct broadcast satellite early next year.
Jim Dolan, president and chief executive, said the cost of launching a satellite would be minimal - he estimated the venture would require only $75m from January to June. The company has held discussions with other satellite operators, including EchoStar, about a satellite partnership.
