RCA rg reciever upgrades!

Upgrades are coming down on the RG models (RCA) from DTV.
New channel logos, fix for wink links. And faster guide, and the missing date in descriptions have been fixed. Also unit shutting off seems to be corrected.
Anyone who has recieved this upgrade, please reply with your thoughts. On dbsforums.com posters say that they got upgrade without notice. So far Pacific and Central times have recievd them.
Im still waiting.

Jamielee, Just thought I'd let you know that the upgrade has not occured in the Central time zone, or at leasted to my 485RG as of yet. I'm still waiting as well. As per what David W, stated in an earlier post it should take place appox. 11/12/02 after 3:40 am for Central time zone.

has the scrolling improved at all, i understand there was a slight improvement. did they increase the size of the picture-in-guide?Because i had the rca drd 485 RG and i swaped it out for a hughes executive directors pack(wich has problems of its own).Did you get a new network logo for discovery wings channel?? The logos are well done on the rca boxes but thats not enough to make me switch back, it might be another year before we see a new generation of irds released by either hughes or thomson.

Yes, there are several new logos, including one for Discovery Wings.

Well the software update happend this morning at 3:40 in the Central time zone . And the scrolling is alot faster on my 485RG, and the date in the detailed guide is there for now, since the guide reloaded have to keep an eye on that. Sure hope this solved all the bugs and doesn't develope new ones. Good Luck to all.

Another thing I noticed after the upgrade...you can still choose the Remind Me option to set the receiver to change to a specific program at a certain time. However, they've eliminated the annoying Tune Program/Clear Timer block of text that would block out nearly the entire screen for an entire minute. Yay!

It might've been nice to have a little icon indicating the receiver was going to be changing channels...but if I had to choose between the previous confirmation screen or no reminder, I'd choose to have no reminder. Perhaps there's something new in the settings to control this now.

Ive got a 430RG scheduled for update tomorrow morning at 4:40....so I'll have to wait and see what happens before junking this one....Though I gotta admit Im pessimistic about it curing the shut down bug.....but again I will wait and see

Well DCSholtis, I don't know about the shut down bug, My 485RG didn't have that problem, but the update did fix all the other issues I had with mine. keeping my fingers crossed that there's not any new bugs that surface with the new update, Good luck with your update.

Crazy thats another thing Im afraid of......more bugs due to the update.....These RCA boxes seem more and more like something Dish would sell I swear it....

i seen the rca RG boxes in stores, they seem slow,i dont know if the upgrade helped.But do they have guide ZOOM ? The hughes executive directors pack has guide ZOOM,wich i like. Guide ZOOM is where the video rapidly moves into the guide and becomes picture in guide and then rapidly returns to video. A feature i only seen on ultimate tv.

Got the upgrade on the RG series RCA recvrs, very big improvement, faster and no bugs.

Im not as mad now that I bought it. No zoom guide, just pops up in the left corner,
Also the new SONY has the zoom guide, it appears that the SONY is the exact same as HUGHES.

I got the update last night for my DRD430RG. In addition to all of the above, it cured the freezing/locking that was present over the last couple days.


There's definitely an improvement in the guide, which is great!!
