View Full Version : RCA RE Series
Are these units ever upgraded? I just hooked mine back up after getting a multiswitch and there are no updates scheduled. Lots of old and missing channel logos too.

Theres been no updates on mine since WINK upgrade was sent down at the end of 2001 .
I wish they would update the logos I love the REs better than the RGs. I wish they would fix the keying in of the channel #s from keying ZERO then the # to just the 3 digit #.
yes i like the rca DRD 480 RE model myself, i own 2 of them. but they dont seem to be interested in updating the guide or missing logos. I think the channel banner is much nicer on the RE models.I tried the RCA DRD 485 RG , but couldnt deal with the numerous bugs and the very slow scrolling on the guide, i understand the recent upgrade only slightly improved the speed. So i returned the RCA 485 RG and exchanged it for a Hughes Executive Directors Pack, wich has far to many bugs of its own to list right now, but at least the scrolling on the guide is very fast and the remote is very good as well, unlike the RCA remotes that have been the same for the last 5 years. The remote on the Hughes can actually change channels from another room. Both the rca drd 480 RE & drd 485 RG both make that claim but the so called wide range remote only works in the same room.If Directv would upgrade the logos on the DRD *** RE models, i might use them again since i have 2 that im not using.

Prot, I have one of the plaqued 485RG's and I'm waiting for the update which should occur on the 12th, so I can't say anything about the improvement of the download, but anything has to be better than the speed of the scrolling that I currently have, as for as the remote being able to work in other rooms, I've never had any problems there. Just the many receiver bugs is what I have issues with. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and waiting for the update.

Hmm. The remote for my 485RGs works fine all around the house. I hooked up receivers in the living room and family room and could use the RF remote to change the channels in any room. It's not the remote that's bad.

How about 420 RE?
What do you think of it people?

I love it, its fast and has no bugs, only thing I hate is when you key in the channel # you have to hit 0 then the number, or the 3 digits then OK to go to the channel.
However since I got the RG series upgrade I went back to it, its now faster and has the dates added.
My Dad has a 420RE. Never had any real problems with it. I'm not sure upgrades would be a good idea as it works fine now.
The only problem I have with it is the GUI. So many tiny little icons that are hard to understand. I prefer Dish's look to their menus because they are simple and easy to read.
