Just got the HR20 100 and I noticed when I hit the power button on the remote to shut off my tv the HR20 also shuts off.

Is this something new, my HR20 700 does not do this? Will this affect my recordings? Is there a way to disable this?

Do you guys power your HR20 down or leave it on all of the time?

Thanks in advance.

It won't affect your recordings, nor will it help your electric bill, as it basically draws the same power when "on" or "off" (really it isn't off, it just turns off the lights and disables the outlets).

Your HR20 does not actually turn off. It goes into standby and that means the lights on the front go off and the a/v outputs turn off but the unit is still on and working. It will record anything that is set to record. So it does not matter if you leave it on or in standby. Your HR20-700 should also do it. If you slide the toggle switch at the top of the remote over to TV then it will only turn the TV if that is what you want.

If you press the TV Power button, the TV and HR20 (or H20 or H10 etc) power down together.

If you press the middle "PWR" button, then only the Sat receiver turns off.

I like the way they designed it.

And like everyone else says, it does go into standby with the lights off plus it turns off the data stream/modulation to the tv saving a bit of power.

Latest study says the biggest problem now is the number of things in standby such as sat/catv receivers, tv's, cell phone chargers, microwaves, dishwashers etc. So I figure if I can do my part to save a little very day, I'll do it.

Will you still get updates in the stand by mode?

My problem is that at night, I want to turn off the TV and the HR-20 so that the blue lights go out. However, as far as I know, there isn't one button to do that, is there? I end up using two different remotes.

The circle of blue lights around the middle can be dimmed/turned off by pressing the left and right arrows simultaneously on the box a few times (not the remote)--that takes care of most of the blue lights on the front. If your TV is correctly programmed into the remote, one button push should work, as described in posts above.
