Well, I had an independent D* installer come out to the house today, but no dice. This was after trying to go through D* directly, but that installer didn't spend too much time at the house even trying. Today's guys got up on the roof with a 3lnb dish and signal meter and couldn't even get a "beep" on the 119, even with a 5 ft tripod mount. They said they like to shoot for that sat 1st, then try the others. The 5lnb never came out of the truck. I've got trees that are in the way, which was was the main problem for sat 110. They said they could get sat 101 without problem, but I wasn't going to settle for one sat, although they claimed that once they hooked the Rx up , they may pick up the 110 and 99, 103. They seemed so focused on just the 119, even though I told them I didn't care about that sat and its channels. They guy kinda wanted to hook me up with just the 101, but I said, I'd need LOS on at least 4/5 sats. He was saying that the digi SD channels are almost as good as the HD:lol: , but I said "no thanks". They were decent guys and I felt a lot better going through an independent, but it still cost me $75 for the service call, which I knew about. They'd reimburse me the money if I decided to trim some trees or go with the one sat. To even hire a tree cutter to cut ~10ft off the tops of about 3 trees would probably cost $200, plus sharing the property lines with my neighbbor makes it a little dicey.
I am disappointed, but I guess Charter will have to suffice till we move to another house, which isn't likely for at least another 1-2 years. Ah well, I tried.:(

When I upgraded a couple months ago, the installer for me did the same thing. When I asked why he was fixated on acquiring the 119 satellite he said it was because it was the most difficult to hit, he implied if he could work around my trees and get it, the signals from the others wouldn't be a problem to acquire. Sure enough after he found the best position for the dish and set it up, he got high signal strength on the others as he promised.
