Yesterday I got my third HR20, a 100. It is connected to a 15" Magnavox LCD HDTV via component connections. I am using the included RCA audio cables to connect the audio to the TV. The room also has 5.1 surround, so I connected the HR20 via optical toslink to the Sony AV receiver. One thing I noticed today was that if I am watching a show that has a Dolby Digital surround track, and i am not listening through the surround sound system (just through the TV speakers), the audio breaks up and makes a chirping sound. The picture doesn't break up, just the audio. I wondered if it was a problem with directv for I went to another room and the audio was fine. Then I tried it through the surround sound and it was fine. My guess is the receiver is having trouble taking the DD 5.1 down to 2 channels and output it over RCA. So right now, I can't watch HD programming without using surround. I already had one -100 replaced because it wouldn't decode MPEG 4 and replacing the box fixed that but my new box now brought this new problem... I like the -700 SO much better... it actually WORKS! RCA isn't very good!
Any ideas on how to fix this or do I need yet another replacement?

Thanks

The best way i can answer this is that some of us have had (and still do) similiar issues to what you describe. If you search your issue, hasan wrote a couple of excellent posts on this.

I hope that helps!
