View Full Version : Another 99 & 103 Question...

I've searched past posts and found quite a bit of information on this subject. I'm in Boise, Idaho and am not receiving any on-screen readings from sats 99 & 103. Is this normal since I do not receive HD locals from D*?

I ordered an HR20 with the 5 LNB Dish and the installer seemed very unsure what was he doing. He put up the slimline dish and another smaller dish which I assume is for my SD locals. The installer did the on-screen satellite set-up on the HR20 as a 3 LNB dish which confused me anymore. The dish itself appears to have only 3 of the actual LNBs, but I found out each one can see multiple sats?
I do have BBCs connected to the HR20, but not seeing anything on 99 or 103 has me worried.

Basically, I'm confused and just want to make sure I'm set for the new HD roll-out. Any advice would be appreciated.

How do the rest of your signals look on 101, 110, and 119? If they're good, then you'll be fine. I have no idea if you should be seeing any signals, but if the other ones are good, then 99 and 103 will be good as well.

Wait until the new D10 satellite at 103-deg W goes live next month. If you don't see any signals on 103-deg W, then you know your dish alignment needs tweaking.

That's normal. Those are spot beams that are not pointed at you.

The original poster is in Idaho so your readings will not be the same as his.

101,110 & 119 are fine. I guess I'll have to wait and see as we get closer to September.

I think you should see some signal levels from nearby spotbeams, such as Spokane, although I don't know which satellite is used for that one (it's not listed at Lyngsat).

You said the installer set the HR20 up for a 3 LNB dish. That shouldn't even bring up the signal level screens for 99 and 103. Did you reset the receiver for 5 LNB? If not, you should.

 If you have a Slimline 5 LNB why do you need the other dish?

Does your dish look like this...

If it does than you need to set your HR20 to a 5 LNB. Then looking at SAT strength you should see all Sats; 99,101,103,110, and 119.

My HD locals (zip code 63043) come in on 103.

he needs the second dish for 72.5 sd locals

The OP will NOT see anything on 99 and 103 unless he is in a spotbeam....Spokane, Portland and Salt Lake City are the closest cities with HD locals and the HD spotbeams from those cities are probably not wide enough to cover Boise. So it may be that even setting correctly to the 5-lnb dish, there may still not be any signals.
That will change in a few weeks when DirecTV10 starts transmitting national HD channels from the 103 slot. Then new transponders on 103 will start lighting up, and should be at high signal levels just like the other national satellite channels.
