Congratulations to Mr. Carey. I for one have enjoyed DIRECTV under his tenure and know that I will continue for the next three years at least.

Cheers!

I wonder if this was done with Liberty's blessing or just done to ensure he gets a huge severance payout if they boot him.

Per the linked article: Malone commented on the hiring.

"We are pleased that DIRECTV will continue to benefit from Chase's strong leadership," said John Malone, chairman, Liberty Media Corporation. "Since joining DIRECTV in 2003, Chase has overseen the growth of the company in an increasingly challenging environment and enabled it to build on its leadership position in the business. I look forward to working with Chase as we take DIRECTV to new heights for both its customers and shareholders."

I do also, however, I wonder what he could have done without RM in the background pulling the strings? Maybe Malone will let him do his job.

As long as the stock holders are happy, Malone will be very happy to let Carey do his job.

This quarter. (so by the end of September)

News Corp. agreed to sell its stake in the company to Liberty in exchange for Liberty's minority stake in News Corp. The deal is expected to close in the current quarter.

yep, in business giving someone that glowing of a review, has led to in the super majority of the time, to the person being canned within 1 year.

no matter if it is a public firing (corps, steinbrenners managers and more) or everyday people
