If a person can get a good signal with one, and they switch, should they be able to get a good signal with the other?

considering 110 and 119 for dish .. and 99 thru 119 for direct .. YUP .... yes there are the others that are different

You for got about E*'s reportedly unstable 129. Isn't that where most of their HD is?

That is why I said "roughly"... 119 is in the "general" same direction as the 129

D* and E* do not face the same direction where we live. D* is more to the south and E* is more to the west. We couldn't even install E* where we live because of the direction! :(

Dish looks at satellites located at 61.5/110/105/118.7/119/121/129 &148 did I miss any?

Directv looks at 72.5/91/99/101/103/110 & 119 did I miss any here?

Only 110 & 119 locations are common to both services.

I agree with Earl,

Yup........but the 101 elevation for the DTV bird is higher than the DISH 110 & 119 . If there is a tree clearance issue you may need a pole or a saw. The directions are..........roughly..the same
