I am going to sign up with DTV if someone can tell me whether I will be able to receive Atlanta locals in HD after I "move" to Atlanta from my home in southwest Georgia about 200 miles from Atlanta.
Does anyone know if Thomasville, GA/Tallahassee, FL is in the Atlanta local spotbeam or if there is any way for me to find out.
My mother in law has DTV and lives down the street from me... is there anything I could check on her system that would tell me if I would be able to get Atlanta locals and specifically Atlanta locals in HD.
Thanks in advance.
Joe.

Go to the link below and punch in your zip code and it will tell you what you will be able to receive in HD and SD as far as locals go.

I was talking about setting up service in Thomasville (200 miles from Atlanta) and then "moving" to Atlanta so that I could get Atlanta locals in HD.
I am aware that locals are offered in SD in my area... but not in HD.
Basically... my question is: how large is the spotbeam that carries the Atlanta locals?
The spotbeams for KA are pretty small and I can assure you they won't reach that far. People in Macon, Augusta and Columbus does not have access to Atlanta LIL HD feeds so you won't be able to do what your proposing!

Not true, I moved (really moved:) ) from Atlanta to Augusta and after installation of my HD dish I was still able to get ALL the Atlanta locals in HD, then they changed my service addy and then poof, Augusta locals in SD. So hello OTA.

I was able to get them in Augusta, but from downtown Atlanta to Augusta is about 140 miles, your at least 200 miles and probably closer to 220 from the center of Atanta. So that is a huge difference in a spotbeam, so I would do some more checking before "moving." Also, the fact that HD dishes are very difficult to set up, they may insist that you have a professional install, just FYI.
