I am about to make the big leap and sign up for DirectTV after Comcast pissed me off with the NFL Network fiasco. I would pay the same with DirectTV and get more channels/premium channels etc. even after the promotional period ends.

ANYWAY I live in Chicago in a duplex up, meaning I'm on the 2nd and third floor of my building and am the top unit of two. The problem is I have buildings on either side (East and west) and none in front or behind (North or South) if I mount the dish on the 2nd floor on our juliet balcony (which would make sense) it'll have a large building to the South and West of it, but pretty much clear to the North and west.

Will that work or will the guy have to hit the roof? I'm not sure how our building will feel about that but its five owners and I don't think they'd care especially since the roof is above my unit.

Another question, How do they wire all the tvs? Do they use my existing cable wiring?

Thanks guys!!!

The satellites are in the South/SouthWest direction (Probably more South for you), so you have to have clearance that way. You cost post some pics of you balcony, where you'd want the dish to go, and a pic facing South, and people might be able to tell you if you'll be able to hit the satellites or not.
They MAY be able to use your old cable, it depends on it's quality. If it's fairly new, they'll probably use it.

punch in your zip code here: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/customer/dishPointer.jsp

This should give you the height and direction [true north so you will need to correct to a compass reading]

Brand new building so the cable should be brand new too. If its south southwest it'll face directly into the building next to us unfortunately.

Use the link & a compass. Then you need to have a 20 degree view to the west for the 110 & 119 SATs.
