Well RCA did reply give them that much credit. I have installed RCA from the start of DBS and they have always been at the bottom of the quality list. But they are also cheap in price so you do get what you pay for and they only put a 90 day warranty on parts and labor so they usually live through that.

Well thats true they are fairly cheap I guess, But if they say that a product has certain operations, shouldn't that product be able to preform as described by the manufacture or is that false advertisement ?

I've always considered RCA as a 2nd tier electronics company. Just about everyone else (Japanese) is 1st !

At present the only RCA product I have is a multi-switch and since BEV upgraded their software a month ago I have to keep my two 2700 receivers on at all times or the switch chatters. Something to do with more precise voltages required by the new dual LNB that will be required when the new Nimiq bird goes up.

A powered switch has no problem.

Good luck sorting out your problem.

Keep in mind, the RCA crap is made by Thomson, which also makes many other brands like GE Consumer electronics and the RCA "high-end" ProScan.

My ProScan 27" seems to be holding up well, but any RCA brand devices I've ever owned or used ALL had problems.

In Consumer Reports for the last few years, they have ALWAYS rated RCA/GE/ProScan TV's dead LAST in reliability - they even make it a point to bring this up in their final recomendations.

My first VCR in 1978 was an RCA and lasted 17 years of dedicated service, that was the last good RCA I ever had. Had 3 additional RCA VCRs over the years (I never learned) and each was worse than the others. It has reached the point that if it dosen't have a Japaneses label on the box (even if it is all the same inside) I don't trust it as much.

Well, given the fact that there is only one decent VCR left on the market (the Panasonic AG1980), none of this should be surprising. I've had pretty good luck w/the Hughes equipment, but we have to remember that every manufacturer tries to get their costs as low as possible...and that means trouble for the consumer.

RCA isn't really RCA as it used to be. Neither is GE nor several other brand names tha Thomson has bought the rights to use. Some consumers fail to see this, but I'm not blinded by the wolf in sheep's clothing.

More like a pile of dung held in a Gucci purse. Open it and........the insides just don't match up......

How long ago did Thomson buy the rights to the name? Not that we "Fail to See it", some never knew it to begin with. What other brands does Thomson control???

I have three RCA receivers, two Ultimatetv receivers and a standard 420 receiver. We love the UTV receivers and their performance has been rock-solid. The only problem I have is that the RCA remotes are pretty weak and seem cheap. One of the remotes seems like it is on it's last leg, but the other is fine. It seems that the QC at RCA is lacking.

The RCA 420 is o.k. It is now in my daughter's room. It has problems locking out programs that are set to be locked out, which drives me nuts. The standard Mitsubishi (made by Hughes) blows the RCA away in speed and performance. The RCA 420 just feels cheap when compared to the Mitsubishi.

I don't have any other RCA equipment. I had a RCA VCR once that lasted about two years before crapping out, so I won't buy another one.

If I had my choice I'd choose Hughes receivers over RCA, but that is just my opinion.

RCA & GA product aren't all that bad. My two GE branded 32" sets do exactly what they were designed to do. Set #1 is 7 1/2 years old and cost $600; the other is 2 1/2 years in service and cost $360.

To paraphrase someone, "Cheap TVs are the opiate of the masses."

I think the more moving parts in a RCA or GE Electronics product the worse the situation (VCRs and CD/DVD players jump to the top of the list for the "Cr*p" list.)

I hope my DVD which is made by GE doesen't start falling apart so for it has great, but it being made by Thomson Elec. is enough to make me worry, as much trouble as everyone has had with their D*Tv IRD's. My GE DVD was a gift, I sure wouldn't buy any more of their products, even after the latest software download did fix my IRD I've learned my lesson.

Actually My RCA DVD player seems to be ok from a lasts long consideration, it is old technology and won't read CD-R or CD-RW or has problems playing many-many DVDs but that may be more the fact it is first generation than RCA/Thomson, but I'll blame them just the same. :D
