I have read hundreds of posts and yet this is my first time posting. The willingness to help in this forums is amazing and greatly appreciated.
I self-installed my slimline yesterday and followed the instructions (I think) from the manuals and videos. I am getting very strong signals on all sats EXCEPT the 99 sat which is reading 0,48,45,34,42,0. I live in Los Angeles and I'm sure I should be getting a better signal than this. Does anyone have any specific recommendations on what I should do to peak the 99 without affecting the rest of the sats? I would hate to repeat the procedure all over again unless I really had to. I have searched the forums up and down fo rthis specific problem and can't find an answer. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Since you said you are getting very high signals on all other SAT's I assume you are including 103. I believe you MPEG4 HD locals come from 103. So if that is right then you should be fine. Because 99 and 103 are spot beams and you are not in the spot beam for 99 and that is why you are receiving such low signals on that SAT. When D11 goes up late this year or early next year and is turned on you signals such go way up because that SAT will have natioanl beams.

As BMore Ravens says, your locals come from the 103 satellite, and you should be seeing at least one transponder on 103 in the 90s for signal strength. All the other transponders on 103, and ALL the transponders on 99, are spotbeams pointed at other cities so are not relevant to you. When DirecTV10 starts transmitting from the 103 slot (next month, hopefully) you will see many more 103 transponders. As BMore Ravens says, when DirecTV11 starts up you will see many more 99 transponders and since these will be national beams they should be in the 90s signal strength.
If you are peaked for 103 then your 99 signals should be fine. You will know for sure at the end of this year or early in 2008.

You're probably OK. In Seattle I only get signals from one 103-deg W transponder that reads ~45. Our local HD Channels are beamed from 99-deg W.

Thanks. I am also having very low reception on 99 and 103, and I suspected I would have to surreptitiously trim the tops of my neighbor's trees when the new HD channels come online next month. :D Now, I can save myself the trouble.

I am receiving strong sinals on the 103 sat. Its just the 99 that's weak. Is it possible to get it higher or is this completely normal?

Its completely normal. Spotbeams are each designed to cover a specific couple of hundred square miles of customers in the US.

In my case, I'm in the western part of NY state and only recieve 1 spotbeam from the 99 degree bird. You can take a look @ my signal strengths by clicking the Flickr link in my sig below. :)
