I have 2 DVR's right now, an R10 which I am currently using, and an old Hughes SDVR-40. The R10 will require a Prom mod to work the way I want it to, so I have decided to use the sdvr-40 instead. I am getting a new 320GB HD and will apply the 6.2 OS and the zipper script. This tivo should then work fine.

My question is, once I have this unit working good, can I move the HD to the R10 (After the prom mod of course) and it will work?

Also, would the R10 give me any better features or benefits over the SDVR-40?

Thanks :)

Your SDVR-40's drive will not work in the R10 because the image software files are different. But assuming your R10 drive is still working, you can reimage the SDVR-40 drive using the R10's image files. Basically you'll just reformat the SDVR-40 drive using the Tivo Upgrade MFS Tools utility ....
http://tivo.upgrade-instructions.com/ Note that no PROM mod is requred to upgrade the R10's hard drive.

However, your R10 came with an 80GB drive, so any drive that you install in the R10 must be at least 80GB or bigger.

The features are the same.
