I need to purchase a 2 OD pole for the Slimline Dish that is longer than 6 ft. I plan on stabilizing the dish at the longer heights using a couple of monopoles. I need the extra height for a lake house that frequently floods. The lake house is built high enough off the ground that flooding is not a problem for the lake house. I can not mount the dish to the lake house due to trees. I currently have a 3 lnb dish that is mounted to the side of a covered boat dock. The covered boat dock is a metal pre-fabricated unit that is commonly sold to park a car under. My intention is to cement the pole and then use the side of the covered boat dock to secure the pole. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. I also need mounts that would be suitable to attach the 2 inch OD pole to the side of a hollow steel square beam. Thanks.

Any full service fence company. Get the heavier gauge and they should be willing to cut it to length.

Good Luck!

2" O.D. exhaust tubing (NAPA is heavy guage, rust proofed) which they should cut to your spec. Clamps and hangers can be used as brackets. Inexspensive too.

1 1/2'' x 10' rigid conduit.

1'' x 1'' or similar angle and U-bolts for brackets.

Lowes, Home Depot, etc. etc.

Not cheap tho.

1 5/8" schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe has a ~1.9" OD, but it will work. Any decent hardware store should have 20ft lengths in stock.

I looked at my local fence company but NO 2" - so I took a look at my local Home Depot and they had 2" OD (exactly) 10' electrical conduit for 15.75 ea. I need to mount my antenna approx 10' above ground, so I have to purchase a coupler and connect it to my the remaining 3' buried/concreted portion of pipe in the ground.

btw D, comes to visit saturday :)

Correction -- for those reviewing this thread - the information above is incorrect.

I just to clarify that the pipe (above) was NOT 2" and thus too big ... Credit goes to "doctor j" for pointing this out - before I concreted the pipe in the ground!

Thanks!

I am not certain, but IIRC, electrical conduit is very thin wall, I would be concerned of its strenght.

I would have thought so too, but from the weight of them (carrying them to the truck) they are pretty heavy, so I don't think its your avg. thin-walled conduit. I checked home depots website for the SKU, but its not listed.

My receipt says: 580031 2 EMT CON $15.75 (I purchased 2, and one stainless steel coupler (SKU 605964 @ $3.60)

I believe 2" EMT is 2 3/8 " OD pipe. This is too big for AT-9/AU-9 dish mounting platform.

Again refering to post #3, I have used this material on a couple of occasions with good results, the size is perfect and it is easy to get.

I didn't suggest EMT or IMC I said RIGID CONDUIT. A helluva lot thicker than any fench post or exhaust pipe tubing.

You do not want EMT. You want 1 1/2" RIGID CONDUIT

It's about 35 dollars a stick.

EMT is NOT going be substantial enough at all.

I'm kicking myself, cause I 'knew' I needed 2" exactly and what did I go do - get the wrong pipe. THANK YOU!! Your right I just checked it and its 2 3/8".

Now what do I do? I thought I have this problem solved...Ideas anyone? I was thinking about thick walled alumunum pipe, but its expensive.

thanks again, looks like I have this week to find a solution as D* is coming saturday.....

Take it back and exchange it.

If it's 2 3/8" OD then it's rigid pipe not EMT. Sounds like they made a pricing error.

2" rigid is going for almost 40 bucks a stick around here last time I looked a few weeks ago.

Home Depot has galvanized pipe. I was going to install myself, but I called DTV and they did it for me for $52.80. They dug hole, put conctete and pole in, moved antenna off roof and attached to pole and ran underground( new cable) cable to house. The guy did a terrific job!:D . BTW, the cable run was about 20 feet.

If you can find a WildBlue satellite installer you could get an adapter that reduces 2 3/8 " to 2 " . The WildBlue sat. dish uses a 2" pole.

Those fence posts look like they'd be pretty good with a .120 wall thickness.
1 1/2" rigid conduit has a .138 wall thickness, so pretty close. My whole reason for suggesting conduit is that I know it's readily available at Lowes and Home Depot. Or in my case at work. ;)

Also it can be easily screwed together to reach heights some other things may not.

Good call!

I checked the local WildBlue dealer and they have both 1.66" to 2" and 2.375" to 2" adapters.

Very nice,

Thanks

I stopped by a local independent WildBlue/Dish/D* installer for an adapter.

While I was there he offered to custom cut a 2" OD pipe (looked like .140 wall) and drill through the bottom and weld a small length of re-bar (to keep it from rotating) for $2 a foot!

So it may be worth a call to your local sat installer to see if your can get 2" OD pipe without worrying about adapters for a new slimline install.

purchased 7ft 6" two inch O.D. pipe at local muffler shop. Steel with aluminum coating to help against rust. Paid $10 for the stick, fits like a glove, just the right thickness, comparable to the jmount that comes with the dish. You can even spray paint whatever color for style and anti-rust protection. I will use it with my tripod for ballgames... I also had the muffler shop use the pipe spreader on my tripod to be able to take the 2" pipe. Now, no problems, good to go.

Call DTV. They had mine removed from roof and re-installed in back yard for $52.80. Well worth it. They concreted the pole in ground, ran new cable underground to house, re-installed antenna and adjusted it. Forgot, they also furnished the pole. Good deal to me as I was going to do it myself for more.:D
