First off put me on the list of DLBs being the most important thing that needs to be added to the HR20...now my problem, I believe that it has been suggested that the "easy" work around to not having DLB's is to just record one of the programs and then it should work like normal DLB viewing. Not so fast, While trying to keep up with a baseball game and football game this just didn't work. I was recording the football game and watching the baseball game. I tried pausing the football game and switching over to the baseball game, but when I switched back to the football game it was never paused and was continuing in real time. Several attempts later and still the samething. Am I doing this wrong or is there really no "real" work around for the lack of true DLBs. Please D* gives us DLBs!!! I'm a Saints fan and my son is a Packers fan and we will fight like cats and dogs every sunday this year because of this.

It only goes back to where you left off if it was a previously recorded show. Any show that is currently being recorded will jump to live if you switch to another show and back.

Exactly! so all of those people that said there was a simple work around to the no DLB issue were wrong.

Were you recording both programs or just one?

Yes, you have to record BOTH programs at once. Then go to your List and "Play" one or the other. I have done this several times and it works fine. I have never had a TiVo unit, so I guess it must have been much easier on the TiVo than with this unit? :)
Cheers,
John
P.S. I see you are a saints fan...as you can see from my location, I am a huge fan too! Go Saints!

John is correctly press record for both programs then go to your list and select one of the programs and press play then go to the list again and select the other program and press play then you can switch back and fourth between the two programs.
So Hilmar, u can record the sox and the yankee game and relive 1978 all over again :-)

DLB is so over-rated. Just record both shows!
Let's have the engineers work on something we don't already have.

Sorry, but I disagree. I shouldn't have to go to all that trouble just to be able to switch between programs. What if I want to quickly change and check the score on a third game? That would just screw everything up. My guess is that the guys that developed the HR20 were more interested in watching Star Trek the next generation and less interested in watching sports.....

Not to mention, if you have less then 20% disk available, good luck recording 2 hd games. If you go for the entire game, you range from 9-12% disk spacer PER GAME.
And don't tell me to get another HR20.... If someone is willing to buy me one and pay the $5/month fee.. then ok.... But until then... I don't have the cash some of you seem to. It's 1 hd tv with DVR and 1 SD tv with D'Tivo.

John, never having the TiVo DVR you just don't know what you were missing. The work around requiring you to record BOTH programs really limits what you can do. With the old unit I could just pause the channel I was watching, switch over (by just pressing the down button) surf through all the channels I wanted to and then switch back to the paused program and pick up right where I left off. The HR20 is OK, but the lack of DLB is a MAJOR problem. In my opinion it is the difference between the HR20 being a 5 out of 10 and 9 out of 10.
In practice, I find that I can't use DLB on my DirecTivos as I usually have at least one program being recorded at any given time. It's a great feature to have, but it's not something that works for me a lot of the time.

Preach on brother!.......I just don't understand why there are people that don't "get" what a big deal this is. Maybe they never had it or just never thought to use it. Even if you're not a sports fan it's a great thing to have. I was shocked when I realized the HR20 didn't have this. When I first picked up that remote and started pressing the down arrow and nothing happened I was like "What the F......."
you may want to continue this to the permanent dlb sticky thread....

When I first picked up that remote and started pressing the down arrow and nothing happened I was like "What the F......."Oh, I think we get it. I just don't understand why there are people that don't "get" why some of us wouldn't want to jump around to multiple programs when we can just record both and watch each complete episode at a time. Everybody watches tv different, so what's not to understand?
Just to add something else, with sports, unless you jump through some of the game (like skipping through the huddle in football), as opposed to just FFing through the commercials, you are going to miss some of each game (or more of one) with only 30 minute buffers. So, even when I had a Directivo, I always recorded the 2 complete football games I wanted to watch and then just jumped back and forth so that I wouldn't spoil the whole game. I'd actually much rather prefer to watch a whole complete game before starting another, but the chance of being spoiled is too great, so that's why I jump back and forth.
And to the OP, yes, as someone else said, you should record both things. Here's the "workaround" I posted in the DLB thread (http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=1040901&postcount=1204).
