I've talked to the Chief Engineer at 3 of the local TV stations in my DMA. They all confirm pretty much the same story, that the Echostar equipment is installed and testing is about 1 to 2 weeks from being complete. Based on that, what does this mean in terms of when the stations might actually be available to subscribers?
You may want to specify your DMA.....

Des Moines will probably be on line late December or perhaps January. This is ONLY if everything goes as planned and on "schedule". They are not up on the satellite yet.

Yes, tonight they said Buffalo and Des Moines are November 21. They haven't reached consent agreements with the ABC affiliate in Des Moines yet. Also, how do they get by with not carrying the WB affiliate in Des Moines. It wasn't listed on the package. How do they get by must-carry on this?

Well... Teck Chat caught me! I missed the show, but I was informed about the info Jeff posted here. At least my info wasn't premature. :D I'll have to talk to my "informant". :)
Jeff. The rules for Must Carry are listed on the bottom of the locals page on the EKB (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/19). The station probably did not ask for must carry or asked for retransmission consent.

So is my only option for WB to pay another $5.99 for New York's WB on top of the $5.99 that I pay for the locals?
You can pay the extra $5.99 but it will give you the whole superstation Package..
WPIX 11 (WB) New York
WSBK 38 (UPN) Boston
KWGN 2 (WB) Denver
KTLA 5 (WB) Los Angeles
WWOR 9 (UPN) New York
Or you can get one station for $1.50 each
I think the $5.99 is worth it because of time-shifting in prime time..plus getting a few different newscasts

If you get the supers with the locals as a package I think you can get both for $8.99 a month still.

Anyone know when Anchorage locals will be added??
TNGTony

Anchorage is suffering from the "NO ONE" wants to play ball problem. Right now Dish only has ONE of the big four playing ball. The rest of the nets want things that Dish isn't willing to give. So they are at an impasse. This info is over a month old though. They originally wanted to offer Anchorage in October. It's on hold for now but they are still working on it.

What is the precedent for affiliates being paid by Dish to carry the locals? I emailed the General Manager at WOI-TV (ABC), the affiliate that is so far NOT part of the new Des Moines package. He was complaining that it is absurd that Dish charges customers for locals but won't pay WOI to carry them. He also said that Dish always picks out one station in a local market to apply "peer pressure" as he put it. I told him that what I found absurd was that over 300 affiliates across the country had managed to reach agreements with either Dish or Directv yet a little station in Des Moines couldn't.
TNGTony (or anyone else in the know),
Any idea on Albany NY locals? I'm still disappointed Echostar selected Burlington, VT over us. I

Anyone know the status of the Colorado Springs locals? They seem to be uplinked, but haven't heard much. Thanks

many have speculated that Burlington was aadded for political purposes. I think Albany is not currently on the horizon for either provider.
thanks for the info Geronimo.
any clue on louisville, ky locals??

I answered this on another forum. But Louisville is "in the works". According to a post in this forum on October 15th (which has since been removed by the author) Louisville should be up sometime this "fall/winter".
The post correctly listed Buffalo, Colorado Springs, Des Moines which are being added this week. It also listed Las Vegas and Jacksonville which were added early this month.
Left on the list in that post are Anchorage (who's backhaul uplink may have been spotted), Chico Ca, Tyler TX and Louisville KY.

Still waiting for Hartford/New Haven. Sent an E-Mail to CEO@Echostar.com. I got a canned response to tune into Charlie chats for announcements. Charlie's going to loose alot of customers.

Why does everyone think that if their particular issue isn't dealt with that "XYZ Company" is going to"lose a lot of customers?"

If Dish isn't offering what you want and Directv is, then why are you still with Dish?
If I lived in a city that Dish offered locals (like Des Moines) and Directv didn't, I'd switch in a minute becuase locals are important to my family. Let them know how you feel with your wallet. If you live in Columbus and locals are important, you do have a choice.
I totally understand, I just dont care for D* E* offers some conus programming I perfer to receive.. It would just be nice to have locals. But you are right.
