View Full Version : The PIG - it's a love/hate thing

I really love having the Picture in guid (and other areas) so that I can still watch, but mostly listen, to a show while doing something else on the machine. However it REALLY sucks when it shows you part of a show you are recording and don't want ot see yet - such as when turning on the TV or when you finish watching one show and are checking your list for the next show to watch. I really wish there was some easy way to turn this off.

While you can't turn it off right now, you can pause before you PIG/PIL.
Cheers,

I just hit mute and avert my eyes from that part of the screen.

Last night I think did exactly that but while I was searching through the guide it all of a sudden started playing a show that was being recorded. I don't remember exactly what i did or how it happened so perhaps i didn't do what i thought i did. I'll be sure to pay closer attention next time though.

Would be nice to have option to turn off the PIG. Imagine you are recording two 1PM NFL games. You turn TV/HR20 on at 3:45 not wanting to know the current score but since 1 of the 2 games being recorded will be showing in the PIG, you potentially will see the score.

I thought I posted in this thread for a second. Thanks for "stealing" my sig  The more people that see the message, then hopefully the more noise we make and hopefully they will remove the limit.
About your post, did you have 2 things set to record? That might explain it.

But I'd have no problems with an option to disable it.

I'd love for the PAUSE button to also "mute" the video in the PIG in much the same way that it mutes the audio (by being paused).
Heck, I'd even be happy if there was an option that toggled whether or not this occurred. One way would be just the way it is now, the other would be to make the video a black screen when paused

I'll take it one further, I think that if you press MUTE in a menu screen, the PIG should go away, both video and audio.

I'm watching an already recorded show. Lets assume the receiver is recording two more shows at the same time. When the show I'm watching is over how do I stop watching it, delete it, and select a new show to watch without the PIG giving me a preview of the shows currently being recorded while I do so?
My guess would be something like this:
Pause the current show before I'm prompted to delete it or not.
Go to the list
select a new show to watch and start it.
Once started pause it.
Go back to the list
Delete the show I just finished watching but paused.
Go back to the new show that I started and resume playing.
It seems WAY more cumbersome than it's worth.
Well we've made this Wish List (http://www.sizethis.com/index.php?module=survey&survey=28) request:
OPTION to turn off PICTURE IN GUIDE/LIST/SETUP, to prevent "spoilers".
So for those of you who have yet to take the survey and express how you value this request, please do so! :) /steve

Biiiiig remote control issue. The remotes that come with the HR20 would have to be able to do TV/receiver mute as well as affect the HR20 and every third party remote would lose this functionality.

Thanks Steve .. I've personally wanted this from early on.
Funny, this is one of the reasons I always loved DLB. I would always switch the foreground to the other tuner when I didn't want to be spoiled.
Doesn't work if recording 2 shows at same time but that's not very frequent.

I apologize if it's been mentioned before, but I would like an option to gain more screen real estate by disabling the PIG. Right now, the PIG along with the description consumes about 40% of the top of the screen. By removing it, the description would only take a couple of lines on the top thus providing the screen space to display more channels in the guide or shows in the list.
In general, DTV could really improve the interface by displaying more relevant items in lieu of pretty pictures.

The help balloon for this request reads as follows: "Perhaps font size can be selectable and PIG can be turned off, but just for the GUIDE, even if the user wants PICTURE in LIST/SETUP?" This is currently one of the most-requested features.
If you haven't yet taken the survey to vote on this and the other items, please do so here (http://www.sizethis.com/index.php?module=survey&survey=28)! :) /s

You know, it's funny I like the Picture in Guide, I know I'm in the minority. Back in the old TiVo days, I used to ask for it. But I'm not a huge sports watcher so I probably don't worry as much about the spoiling.

There's aspects to it that I really like - such as being able to continue watching / listening to a program while aalmost anywhere in the menu /guide. It's just that there are other aspects (noted in previous posts) which suck. I think D if D could "fix" these drawbacks it would be great.

E.g., wife and I sit down to watch a show from the Playlist around 8 PM. We finish the show around 8:45, depending on commercials. Now I go to the LIST to pick out another show, and the PIL is showing me a scene from the end of the currently recording 8-9 PM show, so I have to hit PAUSE. Annoys the heck out of me. :) /s

Stuart, from my days maintaining the Wish List, I can assure you that assure you that you are in the majority. There is a stronger contingent today than in the past, but I'm sure a poll would float in your favor.
