For those DVD Bruners out there who have periodically run into the endless Encoding of Audio and Video in their encoding products (or the encoding product does not properly recognize the data file size, info) I've had that happen about 1 in 25 transfers from VHS tape to AVI. Well it happend recently on a tape I knew had a major flaw in it (about 3 inches of tape was crumpled and whenever it played the VCR would go wacky for a few seconds (10 at most). Well I tried transfering that tape twice and it would encode like normal for about 40 minutes, then the remaining time indicator would just start to go up and up and before you know 5 hours have passed and it said 5 hours remaining (normally this would only take 1 or 1.5 hours).

Well I went in and edited out the part that was recorded of the damaged section (part of the damage just showed up as static, others showed up as full screen flashes of red or green or large pixelations). I edited out the 10 seconds of damaged recording and resaved the AVI. This time it encoded in about 70 minutes.

Just thought I'd share this if you ran into the same problem?
