First time posting here. I had my HR20 networking with my PC fine and handn't used it for a few days. Today when I click on "Music & Photos" I get a new "interface", where previously I just had a drop down list with my PC being shown. The interface has "My Computers" shown along with a couple of windows, one of which says DIRECTV Media Share Beta. When I click on "My Computers" I get multiple listings of the name of my computer. When I click on each of these it says "there aren no files in this folder". Anyone having this problem or have any ideas what may be happening? Thanks.

You have received the new media share GUI and that is why it looks different now. As far as the problem you are having it is a problem with the software you have now. Every time you log off or turn off your PC it adds another one to your list to pick from. One of them should work but only one of them. It has been fixed in the last CE update. If you don't know what CE is do a search for cutting edge and you will find all the information on it.

Hi Mike,
Thanks again for the reply. Found what CE is. Just so I make sure that I understand, I should wait for the next CE update when it's announced? Big thanks for any help.

If you would like to take part in the CE updates there will be windows announced that you can download the CE software. But please make sure you read through the CE forums and understand what you are getting into and the rules. Just to make sure you see this rule I will post it here. When you have CE software on your unit if you have a problem with that unit you need to come here for help. You can not call DIRECTV and talk to a CSR or Tech about a problem that you are having with that unit. You can call them about anything else still.

hometech,
In the mean time, you can reboot the HR20 and leave your PC media share software running and only ONE entry will be posted in the media share software on the HR20. This would be the work around. Some users have reported a LOT of entries in the HR20. I would hate to see you have to struggle to find which one might be the working entry.

I unfortunately, have had the experience of seeing my PC listed about 32 times and my media server listed about 8 as choices with all empty folders. So, I'm going to reboot. Thanks.

Well, an interesting thing. I rebooted and now the HR20 doesn't see the PC and vice versa. The HR20 shows it has a valid IP address. But, I can't ping it from the PC. Not sure what happened there. Guess I'll play around with it for awhile. Let me know if there are any thoughts. Thanks.
It may take a while for the HR-20 to be "seen" on the network. As far as I know you can not ping the HR-20.

What SoCool said is true, you cannot ping the HR20. They must have ICMP reply broadcast turned off so it will not repond to a ping.
Give it a while and see if it comes back to the HR20. It may show up after being up for a while and make sure it passes the network test.

If you would like for your HR20 to comply/work to certain expectations, I encourage you to read and post your opinion in the thread...

What does broadcast have to do with ping? I didn't think that ping (ICMP Echo Request) used broadcast packets.

BTW, I agree with you 110% regarding DLNA compatibility!

Sorry, broadcast may not be the best term to use. In linux OS's a setting can be used to turn off replies to broadcast packets which a "ping" can be distributed. Just like when you ping using "ping -b 192.168.1.0", that should return a response back from every network device on that subnet, however, Microsoft has also turned off the "icmp broadcast" reply to these requests and the system will not show up. You can ping directly to the IP address though and get a response from a windows pc.
