I don't know about everyone else but I've been with D* since 97. I've lost 119 because of trees and I'm looking at about 1,500 to have it solved. My contract is up next summer. If the HD roll out doesn't happen or isn't as great as they are pumping us up for then I'm going back to cable and hope that AT&T gets their fiber optic TV going soon.

The HD roll-out is happening. I've been with DIRECTV for a long time too and had issues with 119 due to trees. We can't blame them for the trees, frankly I don't even care about 119 at this point. My hope is all HD content is moved to either 99, or preferably the 103 (at least repeated in MPEG-4 on the 103) since D10 is getting ever close to going live and D11 is still firmly on the ground. The HD content is going to 99 or 103 -- it is just a matter of time.
My money would say forget the tree job for now and wait for the higher elevation 99 and 103 to solve your HD woes. 103 should be live within 30 days +/-.

I hear what you are saying. I have to spend at least $1,000 a year on arborists to keep trees in line.
That being said, take my word for it... DIRECTV has great things in mind for us in the coming months. I bet you'll be glad you waited.

DirecTV will either hit a home run or strike out in the next few months.
I predict a home run :)

That is all I'm saying. Our local cable company stinks and I'm by no means looking forward to going back but laying out that type of cash to keep a tv service....well like I said they better make it worth it or I'm gone.

I wouldn't miss 119 but that is where my locals are and I don't believe I can record OTA with my Samsung Tivo DVR. I would look into getting a HR20 but boom there goes another two years and I would still have the same tree problems. If anyone out there knows how I can record OTA with my Samsung I would be extremely grateful.

Do you have your locals in hd? If so, it's likely that the new sat launches will get you the rest of them, CW, PBS, My9, etc.
I'm sounding stupid again I know  but what is WOW  Is it a cable company? All I know is that the people in the Northern part of the country like it best.

When I upgraded to HD equipment last year, I had tree issues.
Solution = I have a lot more firewood!

AT&T IPTV is a bunch of PR "me too" hype to try and make them look as if they are rolling out FTTH at this point.

they never said they were trying to be like anyone, the product they are rolling out is similiar to FIOS, same PQ, less perks. depending on your needs, 99.33% of the people that have it will be just as satisfied

You really need to get into the real world instead of spouting baseless BS.
1) AT&T is doing this to try and convince Wall Street they are not falling behind in the FTTH game
2) As you cannot view (or record) 2 or more HD programs via IPTV, this WILL NOT work for 99.3% of the people as over 20% of the population now has a DVR.

igator99,
I gotta tell you.........DTV will not miss ya. They are what they are and for every pissed off customer that leaves there will be other pissed off customers from DISH or the CATV world
Probably, if you try to explain about the trees, they will leave you on hold until you are good. But look on the bright side. You are in the south. You're elevation is higher than any of them yankee pukes up north. If you don't get a signal from at least 101 it must have been some hidden sin in a previous life.
They know about this stuff. Cut the damn trees!

Oh I know that. If I disconnect and leave the CSR isn't going to start crying nor will they start wearing black arm bands around the office:lol:
In fact D* has given me many freebies because of the tree problem. I love D*. My signal is good except for 119. I will have to make a decision this year to cut the trees and stay with D* (That is if the HOA will let me) or go back to stinking Charter:nono2: .
BTW I'm getting N/A on 99. I board member that lives close to me is getting a reading from 99. I don't get 0's just N/A. He gets a reading. Why would this be?

What POSSIBLE scenario in your WILDEST dreams would prevent the HD rollout - with the exception of a satellite catastrophe?

The satellite is already up in the sky and as far as we know, passing every test DIRECTV throws at it. If there were going to be a problem, it would have happened before now.

Nice website. I wouldn't leave D, of course, but I wish WOW were in my area so I could check it out with someone that had it. You know to try to find out why so many people in the Northern part of the country like it so much.
