I do not know why I did not think of this earlier... but Dish Network could add the SuperStations in HDTV. Each of these stations are in markets that they would provide an HDTV station already. They already have the backhauls and PoPs in place, it would be minimal expense for them to do.

With the new 8PSK technology they have, they could put 3 of them on one transponder. Of course they may not want to use more than one transponder, they could put east coast feeds of UPN/WB and west coast WB up in HDTV (no west coast UPN feed anyways).

Talk about a jump up on DirectTV...

I bet HDNET appears on Dish as soon as the exclusivity expires with DirectTV. I am just hoping they do not clog up national transponders with LIL...

Wow, that's the best idea I've heard all day!

Since HDNET is available on Cox Cable here in Phoenix, I'd assume you'll see it on Dish any month now...

I heard that HDNET is exclusive to DirectTV until the end of the year for the DBS markets. Should have HDNET + 3 more channels they are going to do and HDESPN next year. I hope they hold all these empty transponders for the HDTV channels, an nice way to go upscale.

Mike123abc, The problem that I see with your proposal is the availability of HD programming material. Most of these Independents' programming consists of reruns of syndicated shows that are pre HD. This would just leave the live sports programming that some of them carry. Just a thought, don't mean to be negative.

Well UPN and WB are just starting to do HDTV... WB has like 5 hours a week of true HDTV, and I know Enterprise is shot in HDTV, but do not know what else on UPN is in HDTV. With a national outlet for HDTV they would probably do more. Both are ramping up HDTV for primetime.

Of course non prime time would be non HDTV.
