We have an HR20 and a 5 LNB dish. We just got a small HD TV for the bedroom and are getting an H20 (don't need two DVRs.) The rep said that the multiswitch was $80 if it is needed. I'd think I need one, but I thought from reading on here that they are included. Is this just a case of a CSR not knowing what he's talking about, or might I really need to buy a switch that costs almost as much as the receiver? I'm hoping for the clueless CSR, as he was also talking about getting a 5LNB dish even though he had already asked if our HR20 had B Band Converters.

If you only have a HR20 and getting the H20 you will not need a multi-switch. The dish has 4 outputs and you will only need 3.

If you do have other receiver's then you will need a multi-switch. If you get the H20 from DIRECTV and have them install it there should be no charge for the multi-switch. If you get the H20 from some where else they may charge you for it since they are going to have to send a installer out just to install the multi-switch.

Either way I would call and talk to someone else.

Cool, thanks for the response. We do not have any other equipment, so from your explanation, we will not need a multiswitch. Sounds good to me.

Nope. Just run 2 lines from the dish to the HR20 and one line from the dish to the H20 and you will be good to go.

If a DIRECTV installer is installing the H20 and dropping another line I would try to have him dropped the 4th line just in case you want to add more receiver's down the road. At that point you will already have the 4 lines to go to the multi-switch.
