View Full Version : Stopping playback while recording
When I attempt to stop playing back a recording with the same or another recording already in progress, it asks me if I want to stop the recording. I do not want to stop the recording of course; I want to stop the play back. Is there a reasonable way to accomplish this without having to start over the show I was watching?

Click Yes. It will not stop recording, just stop the playback.

If that does not work, I think you could just turn the 622 off and on. That would stop the playback but not the recording.

If in single mode, try using the Swap key first.
Bring up your PVR list and try selecting something already recorded, or even the show you are watching.
I always just FF at 300X to get me to live TV. Quick and easy. It works and gives me a sense of security.

There is a VIEW LIVE TV button.

If you're watching a program being recorded, but began watching it after the recording started, you should be able to press either the "Cancel" or more likely the "Live TV" button to get out of Playback. You can also press the "DVR" button twice which should take you back to your recorded programs list. I use this delayed start method a lot so I can skip the commercials. Remember, too, if you're in Dual Mode you can only watch the program being recorded, a previously recorded program or an OTA broadcast, provided you have an antenna connected to the DVR.

To clarify my problem, let me amend what I originally wrote by saying that this problem occurs when playing back a program that is still recording in single mode. If I press OK in that dialog, it ends the recording. If I press any other button (including Live TV) to get out of the playback, I will have to start watching the program from the beginning instead of resuming where I stopped watching.

I don't recall a Resume function being available while watching a program that's still being recorded. IIRC (I'm at work and can't check), after you've pressed the DVR to get to the programs List, the available program options read something like View, Start Over, Stop Rec, etc.

This is a known issue when a user stops viewing a show that is currently being recorded.

There is a VIEW LIVE TV button.
All the OP needs to do is hoit "View Live TV" and guess what? The recording continues and you are watching live TV.

Ron,
Not sure what the "known issue" is. The 508 and 942 functioned exactly this way. If one hits the "Stop" button the screen warns that you will stop the recording. If one wants to "stop" viewing the delayed recording, one must hit "View Live TV."

I was actually addressing the lack of being able to resume when viewing a show that is being currently recorded and you left it and came back. There is no resume like you get when you watch a that is recorded (not being recorded).
Little usability glitch. Not sure if it will be fixed but it is there.

Got it. Thanks. I missed his clarification.

This drives us crazy, too. We end up trying to make it a practice not to start watching anything that is not completely recorded because it's so irritating to have to fast forward to where you left off!

This is probably the one thing I HATE about this DVR. It's especially bad when you have 4 or 5 hours of golf recorded and then have to fast forward to some point in the middle.
Yeah, this is a big problem for people who record sports because we occasionally want to watch live or with a short delay.
