I have heard very little about a 522 model receiver. Anybody know what this is? Thanks.

It is supposed to be a 2 tuner PVR that allows the PVR to be shared by two different TV sets, each set able to tune in a different show at the same time. There is also talk of a 544 unit that would have 4 tuners in it for 4 sets.

Right now, it's still vaporware...

I wonder why the current 2 tuner PVR is 721 and these are 5xx.

Price and the 721 is built using a different OS.... The 721 is supposed to be so much more than it is right now....

At DISH's Team Summit last April they announced some model numbers for future products, the 522 was one of the products. These products probably won't make it to the marketplace until the 4th quarter of 2003. Dish is basing the 522 on the 501 but by the time any of these concept products makes it to the real world it will probably completely different and with luck it might even work. There was a time DISH showed a DVD player satellite receiver at CES and a year later it still hadn't made it to the marketplace, eventually the idea was scrapped. In other words don't get excited about DISH'S concepts until they actually reach the market then plan on another 3-6 months to complete in home BETA TESTING.

522 is due out end 1st quarter or early 2nd quarter next year. I hope the date works out since its a expansion of the 500 series and not a entire new design.

I don't know why dish keeps building pvr's, when it's obvious that they don't know wtf they're doing. I say this as a dish subscriber who is friggin disgusted with the **** they build. I still have my dp and only because I like the superstations that I stay with dn. After reading all the problems with the 721, I understand now why so many have gone to dtv. It's very frustrating. I just had to vent. I don't think I'm alone, am I?

No sadly your not. E REALLY needs to get their act together on the PPVR market.

Fancy featrures are fine but give me a 100% rock solid operation instead.

Fame advance and slow mo are nice to have but dont let the @# loose a recording...
